Dr Shahriar Majlessi

Dr Shahriar Majlessi qualified in Dentistry at Umeå University, Sweden in 1989 and began his career as a general and restorative dentist in Värmland. He joined Plymouth City Centre Dental Practice in 1998 and has been a reassuring, familiar presence in the clinic ever since.

With a special interest in restorative dentistry, Shahriar brings a gentle, thoughtful approach to every appointment. He will take the time to understand your concerns, explain your options clearly, and help you regain comfort, function, and confidence in your smile.

What is IV sedation?

IV (intravenous) sedation is a way of helping patients feel relaxed and comfortable during dental treatment. A sedative medication is given through a small cannula placed in a vein, usually in the arm or hand. Patients remain conscious and able to respond to instructions, but they often feel very calm and may remember little about the procedure afterwards.

How we provide IV sedation at Plymouth City Centre Dental Practice

At Plymouth City, IV sedation is carried out by appropriately trained dental professionals in a safe, monitored environment. We provide IV sedation for Extractions only. Before treatment, we assess your medical history and suitability for sedation. On the day of your appointment, the sedative is administered through a small cannula, and your breathing, pulse, oxygen levels, and blood pressure are carefully monitored throughout the procedure. Once treatment is complete, we continue to monitor you during recovery until you are ready to go home with a responsible adult es**rt.

IV sedation can be particularly helpful for patients who feel anxious about dental treatment, or have a strong gag reflex. Please note that after IV sedation, you will not be able to drive and must arrange for someone to accompany you home.
