Supporting little smiles in our local community! 🦷

We recently had the pleasure of joining Barnardo's Plymouth for a weaning workshop aimed at supporting new mums with babies under 12 months.

Charlotte from Barnardo’s led a really informative session on introducing foods, helping mums understand how to approach weaning safely and confidently.

Our Dental Therapist, Georgie, then spent some time with the group talking about oral hygiene for babies and young children, including how to care for those first teeth and establish good habits early on.

The response from the mums was fantastic, and it was lovely to see everyone leaving feeling more informed and confident, with their little ones’ first toothbrushes and toothpaste from EDC to take home! 🪥

Community education is something we’re really passionate about at Eilertsen Dental Care.

Our team regularly visits local schools, care settings and community groups to share practical oral health advice with people of all ages.

If you work in a school or care setting, or organise a local group or event where you feel oral health education would be beneficial, please get in touch with our team. We’d love to see how we can help!

A big thank you to Charlotte and the team at Barnado’s Plymouth for having us! 💚

Do your gums bleed when you brush or floss?🩸

It can be tempting to ignore it, especially if there's no pain.

But regular bleeding isn't something you should simply accept as normal.

One of the most common reasons gums bleed is inflammation caused by plaque and biofilm building up around the teeth and gum-line. However, there can be different reasons for bleeding gums, which is why it's important to have persistent symptoms assessed rather than trying to diagnose the cause yourself.

The good news? Bleeding gums don't automatically mean something serious is wrong.

Your dentist or hygienist can assess your gums, identify any areas of concern and help you understand what you can do to improve your oral health at home.

Swipe through to find out when bleeding gums are worth getting checked👉

If you're regularly noticing blood when brushing or cleaning between your teeth, speak to our team about booking an appointment.

Would you know what counts as a dental emergency? 🦷

Severe toothache, swelling, trauma or a broken tooth are all situations where you may need to speak to a dentist sooner rather than later.

In this video Dental Clinician, Kate, explains some of the common dental problems that may need urgent attention and what to do if you’re unsure.

If you’re experiencing a dental problem and aren’t sure whether it’s an emergency, contact Eilertsen Dental Care in Plymouth and our team can advise you on the next step.

World Smile Day 🙂

A smile can say a lot.

It can show confidence, happiness, relief, or simply that you feel comfortable being yourself.

At Eilertsen Dental Care, we believe dentistry is about more than just treating teeth. It’s about helping our patients feel confident in their oral health and comfortable with their smile.

Whether that means maintaining healthy teeth and gums, improving your oral health through preventative care, or exploring treatment options to enhance your smile, our approach is always centred around you.

Because sometimes, the biggest difference dentistry can make is simply helping you feel happier to smile.

This World Smile Day, we’re celebrating every smile, exactly as it is. 🦷

National Dental Hygiene Month🦷

Dental hygiene is about much more than simply having your teeth cleaned.

At Eilertsen Dental Care, we see hygiene appointments as an important part of preventing dental problems, maintaining healthy gums and helping patients understand their own oral health.

One of the ways we do this is through Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT).

Biofilm is the layer of bacteria that naturally builds up on the teeth and around the gumline. With GBT, we use a disclosing solution to make this biofilm visible, allowing our clinicians to identify exactly where it is building up before using targeted technology to remove it.

But the appointment doesn't stop there.

Your hygienist can also help you understand:
🦷Where you may be missing when brushing
🦷How to improve your interdental cleaning
🦷What may be contributing to plaque and biofilm build-up
🦷How to maintain healthier teeth and gums between appointments

Because everyone's oral health is different, hygiene care should be personalised to you rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

For us, prevention is a big part of good dentistry.

The more you understand about your oral health and the habits that affect it, the more empowered you are to look after your smile in the long term.

This National Dental Hygiene Month, we're celebrating the importance of prevention, education and professional hygiene care.

Have you heard of Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT)?

At Eilertsen Dental Care, we use GBT as part of our approach to professional dental hygiene because it helps us identify and remove dental biofilm, the sticky layer of bacteria that builds up on teeth and along the gumline.

So, how does it work?

🦷Disclose – a special dye highlights the biofilm on your teeth, making it easier to see where it has built up.

🦷Guide – by making the biofilm visible, your hygienist can see exactly where attention is needed.

🦷Remove – gentle, targeted technology is then used to remove the biofilm and deposits from the teeth.

The benefit? Rather than simply cleaning your teeth, GBT gives our clinicians a more targeted way to identify and remove biofilm while helping you understand where it is building up.

We use GBT because we want your hygiene appointments to be thorough, personalised and focused on helping you maintain healthy teeth and gums long-term.

Swipe through our post to learn more about how GBT works and why we use it at Eilertsen Dental Care.

What actually happens when you visit a new dentist for the first time?

It’s something we’re asked regularly, so, here’s a little explanation from Dental Practitioner, Amelia, on what happens when you first visit Eilertsen Dental Care.

Your first visit gives us the opportunity to get to know you, talk about any concerns and assess your current oral health.

From there, we can explain what we’ve found and, if anything needs attention, talk through your options.

You don’t need to know what treatment you need before you arrive, and there’s no such thing as a silly question.

If uncertainty has been stopping you from booking, give our reception team a call and we can explain what to expect before you visit.
