🌟 BAPO Conference & Awards 2026 - Newport Highlights!

Tom and I had such a brilliant day at the BAPO Conference & Awards at the ICC Newport last Friday. The presentations were inspiring, the atmosphere was buzzing and it was amazing to reconnect with so many familiar faces in the profession.

Loved catching up with FuzeRx and Tim Cooney, his carbon fibre work is always incredible. Great chats with the Össur UK Team and a really valuable conversation with Kate (Steeper Group ) about pectus bracing.

We also bumped into Doug Young (Crispin), Helena Marshall (Peacocks) and Laura Aggatt (LEWis BRAND ) always fantastic to see the people working so hard in prosthetics and orthotics.

Elaine from Blatchford delivered a standout presentation on their microprocessor knee joint and it was lovely as always to catch up with Algeos , Shaun and Iman and learn about their new 3D printed insoles range.

The awards ceremony in the evening was a real highlight - delicious food, great w**e, inspiring nominees… we even had a little boogie before the night was out. The DJ was on top form.

Feeling energised, grateful and proud to be part of such a forward‑thinking profession 💙

⭐ Supporting patients with pectus excavatum and pectus carinatum is an important part of our work at Woods Orthotics.⭐

Pectus excavatum (sunken chest) and pectus carinatum (protruding or pigeon chest) are chest wall deformities caused by the breastbone growing differently, creating a dip or a raised area. 🌟 Brain Injury Networking Forum - Tom is Speaking!

We’re excited to share that Tom Woods will be speaking at the upcoming Brain Injury Networking Forum, hosted by Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors at The Movement Centre The Movement Centre .

Tom will be talking about the role of orthotics in neuro rehabilitation, including gait analysis, targeted orthotic prescription and how the right device can support recovery, independence and long‑term mobility. It’s a brilliant opportunity for clinicians, therapists, case managers and anyone working in brain injury support to connect, learn and collaborate.

The Turbomed Orthotics AFO from Blatchford has worked brilliantly for our patient managing foot drop.

✨ Sponsors Day at Oswestry Cricket Club ✨

What a brilliant day in Oswestry a few weeks ago. We were invited to the club’s annual sponsors event and treated to a gorgeous lunch overlooking the pitch: fresh salads, prawns and the tastiest cheesecake to finish.

☀️The sun was shining and the atmosphere was spot on. It was great to see our advertising board proudly displayed around the field while watching the players in action. We also loved catching up with so many local businesses who help make the Oswestry community what it is. 🙌

A huge thank you to Oswestry Cricket Club for hosting us so warmly. Good food, good company and great cricket — the perfect way to spend a summer’s day 🏏☀️

This patient developed bilateral lower limb nerve damage following cellulitis. His balance and instability became so problematic that he stopped leaving the house and the walks he once enjoyed became a distant memory.

While he has an obvious foot drop on the right, his main issue is bilateral plantarflexor weakness. This made it difficult for him to take load through the full length of his feet and had a major impact on his gait and balance.

We fitted bilateral Blue Rocker AFOs to help compensate for this weakness. The difference was transformative. His gait was more stable, his balance improved and his confidence returned almost immediately.

The best part? He left the appointment rejuvenated and excited about getting back to the walks he had previously given up on.

Moments like these are a reminder that orthotics isn't just about improving biomechanics. It's about helping people regain confidence, independence and the freedom to do the things they enjoy.
