A fantastic first day at Abbot Salford delivering the Swimming Pool Emergency Rescue Award! 🙌

Today, candidates got stuck into a range of practical and theory-based sessions, developing the skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively in swimming pool emergencies.

From rescue techniques and casualty care to emergency procedures and teamwork, everyone worked incredibly hard throughout the day. 👏

Remember the Water Safety Code: If you fall in, stay calm, float on your back and call for help.

Cold water shock can happen to anyone, even on a warm day. Your instinct might be to panic, but the best thing you can do is float.

🛟 Tilt your head back and keep your airway clear
🫁 Relax and focus on your breathing
🌊 Spread your arms and legs to stay balanced
🤲 Gently move your hands if needed
📞 Once calm, signal for help or swim to safety

If someone else is in trouble, don’t go in. Throw them something that floats.

💧𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗢𝗳 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝘆𝗱𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 💧

Staying hydrated helps maintain blood pressure during exercise so your heart doesn't work harder to maintain normal blood pressure. Staying hydrated also improves blood flow & circulation & thus the delivery of oxygen & nutrients to working muscles.

As sweat evaporates from your skin, it removes heat from the body, but you also lose body fluid. So, you need to drink fluid during exercise to replace the fluids you lose when you sweat. That way, you'll reduce the risk of heat stress, maintain normal body function, & maintain performance levels.

Good hydration means getting the right amount of water before, during, & after exercise. Water regulates your body temperature & lubricates your joints. It helps transport nutrients to give you energy & keep you healthy. If you're not hydrated, your body can't perform at its highest level!!

🚪 Out with the old, in with the new! 🚪

A huge thank you to L-T Industries Ltd for installing my new electric garage door 🙌

From start to finish, the service was excellent. Lee turned up on time, kept any mess to an absolute minimum, and even took away my old garage door for me.

💦 Water Safety Matters 💦

Did you know that **48% of accidental drownings happen between June and August?**

☀️ Warm weather doesn't always mean safe water.

Whether you're at the beach, a lake, river or reservoir, cold water shock and unexpected hazards can quickly turn a fun day out into an emergency.

If you find yourself in trouble in the water:

🛟 Stay calm
🛟 Float on your back
🛟 Call for help

If you see someone struggling:

⚠️ Do not enter the water to attempt a rescue
⚠️ Throw something that floats, such as a football, lifebuoy or float
⚠️ Call 999 – ask for the Coastguard if you're at the coast

Make sure your family and friends know what to do in an emergency. It could save a life. ❤️

Take 5 minutes to learn the Water Safety Code and help keep yourself and others safe around water this summer.

Last week, our candidates successfully completed their National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) course, and what a fantastic week it was! 🏊‍♂️⛑️

From pool rescues and CPR to first aid and lifeguarding theory, the group worked incredibly hard throughout the course and should be proud of everything they achieved.
