The summer holidays are almost over, which means it’s time to get back into the school routine, and that includes looking after your braces! 😁

Here are a few tips to help keep your orthodontic treatment on track this term:

📅 Keep up with your appointments
Orthodontic appointments are important for checking your progress and making adjustments when needed. Add your appointments to your calendar so they don’t get forgotten during the busy school term.

🦷 Look after your braces
Brush carefully around your brackets and wires, and take a little extra time to keep your teeth and braces clean. A healthy smile is just as important as a straight one!

🪥 Keep your orthodontic essentials in your school bag
A small dental kit with a toothbrush, toothpaste and interdental brushes can be really useful for keeping your teeth fresh after lunch.

🪢 Wearing elastics? Don’t forget them!
If you’ve been prescribed elastics, remember to wear them exactly as instructed. Consistent wear can make a big difference to your treatment progress.

🏉 Back to school sports? Protect your smile!
If you are taking part in contact or high-impact sports such as rugby, hockey or football, remember to wear a mouthguard to help protect your teeth, lips, cheeks and braces from injury. If you’re wearing fixed braces, make sure you use a mouthguard suitable for orthodontic treatment.

🍎 Choose brace-friendly snacks
Try to avoid hard, sticky or chewy foods that could damage your brackets or wires. Your future smile will thank you!

At Devon Square Orthodontics, once our patients reach 16, we will ask them to provide consent if they are happy for their parent or carer’s details to remain as a contact and for our team to discuss their orthodontic treatment with them. 🦷✨

This helps us make sure we have the appropriate consent in place, while continuing to support our patients and their families throughout their orthodontic journey.

We will talk you through this when you reach 16, so please don’t worry, our friendly team will be happy to answer any questions you may have. 💗
