Edwards Dental At Edwards Dental, everything we do is guided by one belief; people should feel cared for as people first. Patient confidentiality is very important to us.

This philosophy shapes not only the dentistry we provide but how we communicate, present ourselves, and make people feel. We have a strong commitment to the N.H.S with over 3,500 patients registered and treated every year. We are, however, at full capacity with our N.H.S lists so new patients are treated on an independent basis only. We also run a Dental plan through Denplan for those patients who wish to spread the cost of their Dental Care. Our Team
Emma and David Edwards are our Dental Surgeons and they qualified in 1991 from the University of Wales in Cardiff. Sharon Jones is our receptionist and has been with the practice since 1999. Our Nurses are Jayne, Rebekah, Gill, Allison, Kelly and Lindsey who are all qualified and registered Dental Surgery Assistants. Where to find us
The practice is located in Pontnewydd Village close to the village car park and Bus Stop. Opening Hours
The practice is open during the following hours -
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9a.m-1 2-5p.m
Wednesday 9a.m - 2.30 p.m

Facilities
We have a spacious, modern waiting room which is accessible to wheelchair patients with the use of a ramp. Our staff are friendly and welcoming and always prepared to chat over any queries you may have over your visit. Should you wish to talk in private we will make time and find somewhere suitable for this. We have a practice policy in place and are registered with the Data Protection Commision. Dental Care and Treatment at the practice
We do our best to ensure your dental care meets your individual needs and will discuss the proposed treatment and options with you, giving you time to ask questions and consider the alternatives. Emma has trained in Homeopathic remedies in Dental care and David has done extensive work in the treatment of Bite disorders which can lead to jaw joint pain and headaches. We have a strong leaning towards the prevention of Dental disease and we want you to be able to care and look after your teeth and gums to achieve and maintain good dental health for you and your family. Improving your Smile
We offer a full range of treatments to improve the look of your smile. Don’t be afraid to ask about what could be done to give you the smile you have always wanted. Routine payments can be made with cash, cheque or card. Controlling Your own Dental Health
On your first visit we will invite you to work with us so that together we can carry out a Dental Health Assessment. This will include a full review of your -

Medical History - Please notify us of any medical condition you have or any changes in condition since your last visit. Dental History - Let us know of any previous experiences you may have had at the dentist. Clinical Examination - A thorough look at your jaws, teeth, gums and mouth to assess what level of health or disease is present and finally,
Patient participation - We will show you where your mouth is healthy and where you have active disease. Our trained Dental nurses will then actively work with you to enable you to get rid of these unwanted, unnecessary and preventable diseases. You can and should keep your own natural teeth for the whole of your life. If you choose to work with us, this is the single most important thing we can do for you. The choice is yours ! Your Safety
We take every precaution to safeguard you and our staff. We follow recommended guidelines for the sterilisation of instruments and the use of disposable equipment wherever possible. We are happy to answer any questions you may have on cross infection control or Health and Safety issues. Emergency Care
Please contact us early in the day so that we can offer you one of our special appointments which have been set aside for this purpose. Should you have a Dental emergency outside the normal practice hours, details on how to access emergency care for both N.H.S and Private patients may be obtained by telephoning the practice and listening to the instructions on the answer phone message. Missed / Cancelled Appointments
If you are unable to keep your appointment we would be very grateful if you could give at least 24 hours notice. Repeat failure to do so may result in us being unable to continue to offer appointments. Complaints Procedure
We hope that you are entirely satisfied with your dental care and treatment and would be happy to recommend us to your family and friends. If not, please let us know so we can improve our services. We have a complaints procedure in place, details of which are available from reception. Useful Telephone numbers

We are open as usual whilst we have a much needed bit of maintenance done on the building.
Replacing the fascia boards which were causing water to come in upstairs, filling in the cracks in the old render, tidying up the window ledges and taking advantage of having all the scaffold up to give it all a fresh coat of paint and a new look.
Some signage and a new front door will finish it all off nicely.
Thank you for your patience whilst we do this work and we are very grateful to Arron and Paul from Home Improvements for undertaking the work, I can thoroughly recommend them.

Now the busy Summer months are gone and we head into Autumn, we have availability in the diary if you feel you are due an appointment with us or there is anything giving you concerns about your dental health.
Give us a ring and we’ll get you booked in for a catch up and you can check out all the improvements we have made to the practice.
We look forward to seeing you soon.

Kind regards,
The team at edwards dental.

Introducing our new logo.
We are retiring our old Edwards Dental Health Centre Logo which I designed 25 years ago, I’ve always really liked it even though many patients told me it looked like a moustache 😂😂
Our new logo (this comes from the graphic designer who took my sketches and refined them ) is more human in character, the symbol suggests a heart-like form created through two interrelated figures, representing trust, partnership and the relationships at the centre of the Edwards Dental experience.

August 2025 Newsletter
We hope you have been enjoying the recent sunshine — it has been lovely to see so many of you coming in with holiday stories and big summer smiles. We have also had quite a few calls from patients with questions about dental care and what the future might look like. Rather than only answering these one by one, we wanted to reach out to everyone so you all feel informed and included. This update is here to share some positive developments in the practice and to reassure you about how we are planning for your long-term care.
A new focus on prevention
We are committed to helping you keep your teeth and gums healthy for life — and that means investing in more time for prevention, not just treatment.

That is why we are looking to welcome a dental therapist to our team.
A dental therapist can:
- Carry out regular hygiene appointments to keep your gums healthy
- Provide fillings and other routine treatments
- Give tailored advice to help prevent problems before they start
- Free up dentist time for more complex care, so you can be seen sooner if you need it

We believe this will help us give you more options, more availability, and more time focused on keeping your smile at its best.
Can you help us find the right people?
If you know a brilliant dental therapist (or hygienist) — or someone training in either role — we would love to hear from them.
They can email us directly at [email protected]
Planning for your future care
We want to reassure you that we still have our NHS dental contract and continue to provide NHS care.

However, the Welsh Government has recently announced changes to how NHS dental registrations may work in the future.
From what we know so far, it looks likely that patients could be placed on a central register, rather than being registered directly with the dentist they know and trust.

We believe continuity of care is vital for your oral health — and for your peace of mind.
That is why we are making plans to introduce a membership option for those who want to be certain they will continue to see the same dentist and team, without being reallocated.

Stay in touch
We are starting a regular email newsletter to keep you up to date with:
- Helpful tips for keeping your smile healthy
- News from the practice
- Advance notice of any changes or new services

You can also follow us on Facebook for bite-sized updates and advice.
Warm regards,
David & Emma Edwards and the Edwards Family Dental Health Centre Team

The work will also mean that the phone line and computer system will be out of action for periods of the day.

Bariatric Care
Patient Safety Information: The weight limit on the Dental Chairs is 125 KG / 19.5 Stones

Provision of Care for Those Who Exceed the Dental Chair Weight Limit
We wish our patients to be aware of our limitations in providing care to those over a certain weight limit. Our dental chairs cannot operate above their maximum weight capacity without posing risk to both the patient and staff. Our Practice and its Staff have both a duty of care to all patients and a legal obligation under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to operate in a safe environment.
Using any equipment outside the limits and recommendations of the manufacturer can invalidate public and employee liability insurance, and there may be no recourse against either the manufacturer or the patient for any breakage or failure.
We recognise this is a sensitive subject and are fully aware of our obligations when it comes to accommodating patients of larger size and ensuring there is access to dental care.
Edwards Dental Health Centre will not be obstructive to patients exceeding the weight limit accessing care:
NHS South East Wales has provided general dental practices with a referral pathway to provide care for patients who exceed the weight limit of our dental chair; the South East Wales Bariatric Care Referral Pathway.
If you feel that you may exceed the safe weight limit for the Dental Chair please contact the practice to discuss referral to this service.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter.
