A subtle result with ICON treatment
This before-and-after shows ICON treatment carried out at Twickel Dental Practice by Greig Wilson, Dental Therapist.
ICON can be used in selected cases to improve the appearance of white marks and uneven enamel colour, often without drilling or removing healthy tooth structure.
What we like about this case is the subtlety. The aim was not to create an artificial smile, but to soften the visible marks and keep the teeth looking natural.
This fits closely with our approach at Twickel: minimally invasive dentistry where possible, careful planning, and preserving natural tooth structure.
Every case is different, and suitability depends on the type, depth and cause of the marks.

A few new photographs from Twickel
We recently had some new photographs taken at Twickel — of the team, the practice and the upstairs waiting area.
Just a small update, really.
For me, these photos are really about the people, the team, and the atmosphere behind the care.
Dentistry can be stressful at times — for patients and in different ways for the dental team as well. That is why the details matter: a calm space, a familiar team, clear conversations, and enough time for people to feel properly looked after.
That is what we try to build at Twickel every day: not just treatment, but trust, continuity and a sense that patients are in safe hands.
We are based in Much Wenlock and many of our patients come from the surrounding areas, including Shrewsbury, Bridgnorth, Ironbridge, Telford and the nearby villages.
I thought I would share a few of the new images here.

An interesting article and something I’ve personally noticed more and more in recent years, particularly since Covid.

We seem to be seeing more people, including younger patients, showing signs of clenching or grinding their teeth — sometimes without even realising they are doing it.

Of course, this is just an observation and there can be many different reasons behind it, but I completely agree that stress, sleep, lifestyle and our general wellbeing can all play a part.

It’s another reminder that our oral health is often closely connected with our overall health and wellbeing.

If you’ve noticed jaw tension, headaches, sensitive teeth or signs of wear, it may be worth mentioning it at your next dental visit so it can be checked.

An interesting read and certainly something worth being aware of.

Early gum disease can often be reversed. More advanced gum disease cannot usually be completely reversed, but it can often be controlled and stabilised. The difference depends on whether the problem is simple gum inflammation or whether the supporting bone around the teeth has been damaged.
This is an important distinction. At Twickel Dental Practice in Much Wenlock, we often explain to patients that gum disease is not one single condition. It exists on a spectrum, from mild bleeding gums to more advanced periodontal disease.
Understanding where you are on that spectrum helps decide what can be improved, what can be stabilised, and what needs long-term maintenance.

A filling replaces a damaged or missing part of the tooth. It can restore shape and function, but it does not turn the tooth back into a completely untouched tooth.

The larger the filling, the more the tooth depends on both the filling and the remaining tooth structure working together. Over time, biting forces, temperature changes, wear and daily use can affect that relationship.

Small fillings in strong teeth tend to be more predictable. Very large fillings in weakened teeth are more likely to crack, leak or break.
