Purple whitening products are everywhere right now — and the before/after clips look impressive. 💜

The truth? It's colour correction, not whitening. Brilliant for a quick photo, but your teeth are exactly the same shade by the evening.

Tooth whitening & Composite bonding

This is one of those cases where the little details make such a difference to a smile. 🤍

The front teeth had become quite worn, particularly along the edges. I started with tooth whitening to improve the colour, then used composite bonding to rebuild their shape and create a more even smile.

What I love about the result is that the teeth still look like her teeth — just with their shape restored and a brighter finish.

Invisalign, Tooth Whitening & Composite Bonding

When Katie first came to see me, she already had composite bonding on her upper teeth, but she wasn’t happy with her smile. Instead of simply replacing the old bonding, I wanted to look at her smile as a whole and understand exactly what needed to change.

I started by removing all of the old composite. I then used Invisalign to move her teeth into a more ideal position, creating a much better foundation for the final result.

Once the alignment was complete, I whitened her teeth and finished the treatment with composite bonding on both the upper and lower teeth, carefully refining their shape, proportions and overall balance.

And I absolutely love the final result. ✨

Her teeth are now beautifully aligned and more balanced in shape. I was also able to close the black triangles between the teeth and improve the buccal corridors, creating a fuller and more harmonious smile.

For me, a smile makeover isn’t simply about adding composite. It’s about understanding the smile as a whole, planning each stage carefully and choosing the right combination of treatments to achieve a result that feels natural and right for that patient.

TikTok can be great for discovering new ideas… but not every viral dental trend is safe for your smile. 🦷📱

Charcoal toothpaste, DIY tooth fixing and mouth taping may look harmless online, but some have limited evidence, while others can cause permanent damage or carry risks when used without professional guidance.

As a dentist, my advice is simple: before trying any dental “hack”, check the facts with a qualified professional. A trend may disappear in a few weeks — but damage to your teeth can last much longer.

How long does composite bonding really last? 🦷
This is one of the questions I’m asked most often.

Around 5–7 years is a common guide, but there isn’t one answer that applies to everyone. How long your bonding lasts will depend on where it has been placed, your bite, daily habits and how well it is maintained.

Nail biting, using your teeth as tools and biting directly into very hard foods can all increase the risk of wear or chipping. Good oral hygiene, regular dental reviews and professional polishing can help keep your bonding looking its best for longer.

And remember: needing a touch-up doesn’t mean your bonding has failed. Composite can often be polished or repaired without replacing everything.
