Dentistry for little people.... This little girl was referred to us about to turn 5 y.o. presumably referred as she approached the age to be eligible for dental inhalation sedation.

Her cavities had been around for a while but no treatment had been previously attempted.

It's understandable that dentists don't want to create anxiety in little people if they have never had any treatment before.

At consult she was incredible cooperative and just the happiest little girl. We opted to try her dentistry without sedation.

On her first visit we were able to achieve painless LA with the WAND STA. Complete a Neoputty pulp therapy and another composite filling. She was fully compliant for high speed and slow speed drilling and isolation was immaculate.

Sometimes children don't need sedation. It's also important we treat carious lesions as soon as we see them with conservative techniques like SDF (silver diamine fluoride) or Hall crowns. We accept referrals even if children are too young for sedation because we offer a full range of paediatric services and can often arrest lesions from progressing to avoid an invasive treatment.

SDF in particular is an invaluable tool which buys us time. Application arrests decay in a cavity and allows us to halt it's progression potentially saving a child from needing a general anaesthetic later down the line.

It's also a simple and easy treatment which helps to acclimatise children so that they learn dentistry is painless and not scary.

Prevention is better than cure. If you're unable to offer these services please refer early. We are happy to help clinicians formulate appropriate treatment plans and provide supportive and preventative therapies.

We have a team of 6 Consultant Anaesthetists with a broad range of skills and experience. We will support you with compliance and setting up a safe service. We assess all patients ourselves. On the day we provide all equipment and medicines.

Our sedation team at Diana Dental in Stoke...

Smooth midazolam propofol sedation for 4 hours to allow an anxious gentleman to receive a large amount of routine dental treatment that had become over- whelming to manage.

Sometimes life throws curve balls at you and things you were once able to do become more difficult. That was the case for our gentleman. A retired healthcare professional. We find many healthcare professionals in this state because they work so hard with long hours and often don't find time to look after themselves. With the use of IV conscious sedation provided by our Consultant Anaesthetist Dr Pawel Arkuszynski he was able to get a large amount of dentistry done in a single visit whilst having less awareness of time and good amnesia of the 4 hours lying in a dental chair.

A fresh start and a healthy mouth in a single visit. We don't recommend ignoring dental care needs but as we all know sometimes avoidance is easier when you are anxious. The idea you've let things go can be anxiety provoking for many individuals. Many feel embarrassed but honestly it's something we see every single day because dental anxiety is so common.

We don't judge. We provide support and guidance and it's our job to find a way to help you get your mouth back to good health so you have one less thing to worry about.
