Month of May is National Smile month
The National Smile Month campaign aims to raise awareness of the importance of good oral health and promote the value of a healthy smile. It focuses on three key messages
1. Brush last thing at night and on one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste
2. Cut down how often having sugar food and drinks, stick to meal times only
3. Visit dentist from one years and regularly as often as they recommend.

Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Week
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat, making common infections harder – or even impossible – to treat. In the UK, AMR is linked to twice as many deaths annually as breast cancer. This year’s World AMR Awareness Week (18–24 November) highlights the urgent need to act and use antibiotics responsibly.
Take a look at these links below for more information and stewardship in Antimicrobial Resistance

Our multi-stakeholder group aims to reduce unnecessary use of antibiotics in dental infections and support appropriate choice and duration of treatment.

Are you sugar aware?

We wouldn’t let our kids eat sugar straight from the sugar bowl, But we tend not to think too much about the sugar lurking in the other things they eat and drink.

The problem is that excess sugar means excess energy, which in turn can lead to stored fat in the body and diseases like heart disease, some cancers and
type 2 diabetes.

Eating too much sugar can also cause tooth decay.
Around a quarter of the added sugar in kids’ diets comes from sugary drinks.
Sugary drinks have no place in a child’s daily diet. Swap to water, lower fat
milks, sugar free, diet and no added sugar drinks instead
Recommended maximum added sugar intake
4-6yrs no more than 19g per day 5 cubes
7-10yrs no more than 24g per day 6 cubes
From 11yrs no more than 30g per day 7 cubes

Fizz Free February!!
Purpose of the campaign The idea of the campaign is to get children and adults to give up all fizzy drinks during February in order to reduce their sugar intake, lose weight, save money and keep their teeth. Our experience in 2018 is that the message resonates extremely well on social media. You can help prompt behaviour change by setting up an online pledge form and asking people to go Fizz Free and follow up to see if they stuck to their pledge!
