🦷Veneers don't require dramatic shaving down of your teeth as you may think!
You may have seen more and more people showing off their "shark teeth" in preparation for veneers while in places such as Turkey, with their natural teeth filed down to very small pegs ready for a veneer procedure.
But many dentists have urged people to take caution to this misleading trend.
Teeth filing to such an extent is often completely unnecessary, and is potentially very harmful to your oral health.
In fact, this method is more likely to be for crown treatment, and many people go abroad for a veneer procedure, not knowing that they’re getting crowns instead.
Unlike crowns, a veneer is a very thin layer of composite resin, porcelain or ceramic shell that is only placed on the front surface of the tooth.
Minimal preparation of the existing teeth may sometimes be required where only 1mm or 0.5mm of the tooth enamel will be filed. To avoid any discomfort during this procedure, your dentist may use a local anaesthetic to numb the area.
While UK veneers may be less appealing due to higher costs, the procedure is much safer and maintains your oral health.
You are also much less likely to suffer damage to the nerves, requiring a root canal treatment, dentures, or an extraction at some point due to the dramatic tooth shaving, with many UK dentists unlikely to treat problems caused by damaging treatment abroad.
