❗️Attention ❗️

I’ve just seen this advertisement on Facebook from Home Bargains selling a whitening kit for £4.99 !!!
Don’t be fooled….. My advice save your money (and your teeth!)

This whitening kit contains Phthalimidoperocycaroic acid (PAP) which has been found to be an effective whitening agent….. great ? Also used in laundry powder 🥴
But …….. research has shown that PAP etches the enamel on your teeth which could lead to severe sensitivity and with overuse/incorrect use cause irreversible damage to your teeth.

Please see a Dentist or Dental Hygienist/Therapist (the only people registered to carry out tooth whitening) who can access if you are suitable for tooth whitening and ensure the whitening process is completely safe and will not lead to irreversible damage to your teeth and do your research before buying anything like this!!

Had the pleasure of treating my sister to some
GBT (guided biofilm Therapy) yesterday.
She loved it!! Sarah commented how completely
relaxed and comfortable the treatment was and that due to her sensitive teeth the warm water the machine uses felt AMAZING!!

If you are interested in managing your bleeding gums , improving your oral hygiene or just want a brighter smile - please send me a message.

GUIDED BIOFILM THERAPY ( GBT)

What is it?

GBT is a quick, pain-free way of removing biofilm (plaque - the stuff coloured
purple on the second pic!) light stain and ‘young’ calculus (tartar) from your teeth.

Do your teeth often feel sensitive when you get them cleaned?

The airflow machine has warm 40 degree water and it uses super soft Erythritol powder (more to come on this soon!) - which is so soft and kind to tissues it can even be used on your tongue to remove the bacteria which causes bad breath 😛

This patient had their first appointment with me today and was so impressed with how his teeth felt afterwards! We have a little way to go to treat this patients gum disease and get them healthy enough so he can have some implants placed but, but today we had time to get the teeth super clean and educate the patient about a good oral hygiene routine too! Win win!!
He’s coming to see me again in 4 weeks so I will take some follow up pics 🤩

Today is World Oral Health Day 2021!

Oral health is usually simple to maintain .....

* Brush your teeth with a manual or electric toothbrush ( I recommend electric) 2 times a day for just two minutes. This should be before bed and another time of the day.

* Use floss or little interdental brushes inbetween your teeth each day. I recommend to my patients these are best used at night time before your do your night time brush.

* Mouthwash should be used at a separate time to brushing - either 1 hour afterwards or after a meal ( such as lunch time)
I recommend most mouthwashes ( if you prefer to use one) except CORSODYL - this should not be used as a general daily mouthwash.

* Limit the amount of sugary foods and drinks to meal times only / snacks should be low in sugar - such as cheese/ breadsticks and fruits of veg!

* Visit your Dentist and Dental Therapist ( me!) regularly 😁

🦷 Last new job alert .. I promise!! 🦷

So today I said see you later ( not goodbye!!) to my Wigan dental family @ perfect smile I kept it together all day and the moment I sat in the car I burst out crying !

The practice manager Jill took a chance on a gobby newly qualified Dental Therapist and helped me grow into the clinician I am today and for that I will forever be grateful.

The dentists who worked alongside me showed me nothing but support even when I was calling one of them in every 5 mins to “ check a white patch” or help me out with an extraction on a terrified child 😰

The nurses guided me and took me under their wings and made me feel like I was always one of the team from the outset and I will miss the work bants - esp with my two favourite nurses Emma and Jamie 😭

The patients I will never forget!

I am so excited to start my new journey at ICE ( implant centres of excellence ) Hospital.

Dental implants are my passion and have been since I was a nurse so to be working in such a well renowned implant hospital I can’t quite get my head around -
I am really looking forward to what the future holds for me here and can’t wait to get my hands on those implant patients 🤩

👩🏻‍🎓My Graduation👩🏻‍🎓
What a difference a year makes!
This was 12/03/2020 just before the world
stopped and life changed for us all..... a lot!
Happy I got to graduate but I was also super anxious this day being in a large room with lots of people 😳
It’s nearly 2 years since I qualified as a dental therapist and what a whirlwind it’s been ........!
Just as I was getting confident and slicker in dental practice covid strikes and then bang no work - that was a hard period and adjusting to so much change was mentally draining.
I know a lot of my colleagues have struggled this year with the “new normal” but there is now light at the end of the tunnel for us all which is amazing
Here’s to the next 30 odd years .... 👀👀

🔤 V is for ....
Veneer! - Veneers have become very popular over the last few years thanks to social media “ influencers” so here’s what you need to know ......
Veneers can be either composite or porcelain.

Composite veneers (CV) are non invasive which means there is no preparation ( or very little in some cases) required to adhere them to your tooth. Composite is a tooth coloured material which comes in a variety of shades( from natural white to Simon Cowell bright - depending on the look you want)

Porcelain veneers (PV) are like ‘thin shells’ that are custom made to fit directly over your teeth. Porcelain veneers require minimal preparation of the tooth - and the translucent properties of the porcelain mimic the natural light handling characteristics of enamel
Porcelain vs Composite .......
* PV resist everyday staining - CV can discolour over time - you will need regular polishing and maintenance appointments for your CV!
* PV are more expensive then CV and require at least two visits to your dental practice. CV are completed within a couple of hours on the day.
* PV can last years whereas CV need regular maintenance ( as mentioned above) and can chip slightly easier.

It’s important to do your research and speak
to your dentist / dental therapist who can advise you and give you realistic expectations. If you do decide to go abroad to get your veneers - be aware that your regular dental professional may not repair them if they break! So may end up more costly than you anticipated!
