The preparation before a release matters just as much as the procedure itself.

Here’s what I focus on first:

✨ Early assessment & collaborative care
Understanding the bigger picture early can help guide the right support for your child’s breathing, sleep and oral function.

✨ Myofunctional therapy
Helping children improve:
• tongue posture 👅
• lip seal 👄
• nasal breathing 👃
• swallowing patterns
• oral muscle function

Because the tongue needs to learn how to function properly not just move more.

✨ Osteopathy
Many children develop compensation patterns throughout the body:
• neck tension
• head posture changes
• jaw compensation
• tight shoulders or body tension

Supporting the body will help create better foundations for breathing and function 🤍

✨ Nasal breathing habits
A child cannot maintain good oral posture if they cannot breathe comfortably through their nose 👃

✨ Parent consistency at home
The small daily habits are often what create the biggest long-term changes 🌱

A release is not a magic fix.
The real progress comes from preparation, rehabilitation and supporting the whole child.

Many parents come to me feeling confused, overwhelmed or unsure where to even begin especially when they’ve been told to “just wait and see.”

If you’ve been noticing signs like:
• mouth breathing 👄
• snoring 😴
• restless sleep 🌙
• low tongue posture 👅
• feeding difficulties 🍼
• speech concerns 🗣️
• teeth grinding 🦷

…it may be worth exploring further ✨

Early support can make a huge difference.

June is Dysphagia Awareness Month.

Most people have never heard of dysphagia until swallowing becomes something they fear.

Every meal.
Every drink.
Every cough.
Every moment of panic when something “doesn’t go down properly.”

Swallowing is something most of us take for granted — until it becomes difficult.

Difficulty swallowing can impact: breathing, nutrition, confidence, sleep and quality of life.

Breathing and swallowing are deeply connected.
The body is connected.
And sometimes the signs are there long before people realise.

Awareness matters.
Early recognition matters.
Start asking why.

Absolutely honoured to be invited as a speaker and have the opportunity to take this conversation around airway health, breathing, sleep and function to an international audience. 🌍

This work is deeply personal to me, not only as a dentist, but as a parent who understands firsthand the impact airway dysfunction can have on a child’s health, development and quality of life.

There is still so much awareness needed in this space, and I’m incredibly grateful to be part of the movement pushing these conversations forward within modern dentistry and healthcare.

Excited, humbled and very grateful for the opportunity.

Functional changes go far beyond what we can see in the mouth.

In just 10 weeks, improvements were seen not only in tongue mobility and oral function, but also in day-to-day wellbeing and quality of life.

Reported changes included:
• Quiet nasal breathing
• No more snoring
• Improved lip seal
• Better swallowing patterns
• Improved focus and attention
• Better emotional regulation

This 6 year old child underwent tongue and lip tie releases alongside rehabilitation using the YTM® Method, with surgical care provided by

This is exactly why rehabilitation is critical before and after lip and tongue release procedures. Without retraining function, mobility alone is often not enough.

Collaborative, airway-focused care can be truly life changing for children and their families.

As both a dentist and a mother, I know how easy it is to dismiss mouth breathing as “just a habit.”

But children are designed to breathe through their noses.

Snoring, open-mouth posture, restless sleep, crowded teeth, dark circles, difficulty concentrating sometimes these are signs the body is struggling to compensate.

The earlier we support healthy breathing, sleep and oral function, the better the long-term outcome for growth and development.

Small changes early can change a child’s trajectory.

Most people see crowded teeth.
I start asking why.

How are they breathing?
How are they sleeping?
Can they comfortably keep their lips together?

Sometimes the mouth is telling a much bigger story.

Mouth breathing is not normal.
And the signs are often missed in children.

Crowded teeth. Poor sleep. Teeth grinding. Dark circles.

Airway-focused dentistry looks at the bigger picture.

Nobody talks about how tongue posture can affect the nervous system.

But when the tongue sits low, the body adapts.
Breathing changes.
Muscles compensate.
Sleep quality shifts.
The nervous system stays on alert.

What starts in the mouth can ripple through the entire body.

This is why airway health is about so much more than teeth.

Sometimes the first signs of poor sleep & airway issues show up in the mouth first 👀

These are just SOME of the things I look for in my dental chair as an airway-focused dentist.

Because breathing, sleep & function matter just as much as teeth 🫶

Parents often tell me:
“But they’re only baby teeth…” 💔

Yet sometimes, worn teeth are one of the first signs I notice that something deeper may be going on.

Grinding, mouth breathing, restless sleep, snoring - the signs are often connected. 👀

Tooth wear in children isn’t always “normal.”
And sometimes the mouth is telling us a much bigger story about breathing, sleep, and development. 🫁😴

The earlier we recognise the signs, the earlier we can support healthier growth and function. ❤️
