One of the questions our patients often ask is whether removing attachments will hurt. The good news? It’s a gentle, straightforward and normally pain-free process!

Using a fine tungsten carbide bur and gentle polishing techniques, the attachments are carefully removed whilst taking care to preserve the natural tooth enamel.

☕ What about staining around the attachments?

Watch Dr Usman Qureshi place Radiance ceramic brackets by American Orthodontics.

Fitting braces is a delicate and highly precise process. The procedure itself is typically pain-free and begins with careful preparation of the enamel so that each bracket can be securely bonded directly to the tooth using a specialist dental resin.

But bonding the bracket is only part of the process.

📍 Bracket position is critical.
Each bracket has an in-built prescription designed to guide the tooth into its planned position. The coloured visualisation markers you can see help Dr Qureshi accurately orientate and position every bracket.

🧼 Attention to detail matters too.
Excess bonding resin is carefully removed from around each bracket. With aesthetic ceramic braces in particular, leaving excess adhesive can affect the appearance and may make the area more prone to staining.

Once all the brackets are positioned, a very fine initial archwire is placed to begin the gradual and controlled movement of the teeth.

⏱️ Fitting both upper and lower braces usually takes around 45 minutes.

Clear braces may look simple — but achieving a great result starts with careful planning, precise placement and attention to every detail.

It a method to create space by moving the upper back teeth backwards in carefully planned stages, helping selected patients avoid premolar extractions and fixed braces. In selected cases it may also be possible in the lower arch too.

It is a specialised orthodontic movement that requires careful control of anchorage, root position, bone and the bite. For larger movements, TADs may be needed to improve control and predictability.

Dr Usman Qureshi shares a case demonstrating how sequential distalisation can be used with clear aligners to create a well-balanced, harmonious smile while maintaining a stable and functional bite.

This patient presented with a Class II Division 2 incisor relationship and deep overbite. Simply aligning the teeth risked excessive forward movement of the front teeth, so treatment was carefully staged to move the posterior teeth backwards, improve the Class II molar relationship and create the space required for controlled anterior alignment.

This case was treated using Invisalign. At Origin Orthodontics, we now use the Angel Aligner system, which combines carefully staged distalisation through its A8 protocols with dual-material technology to support the more challenging root control and uprighting often required in these cases.

Clear aligner treatment is not simply about straightening teeth — treatment planning and biomechanics matter.

In this video, Dr Maryam Izadi explains four common problems that may sometimes benefit from orthognathic (jaw) surgery:

• Increased overjet or deep overbite
• Underbite
• Open bite
• Facial asymmetry

For many patients, the reasons for considering jaw surgery are not purely cosmetic. Significant jaw discrepancies can make eating and chewing more difficult, affect the way the teeth function together and, in some cases, even influence speech.

For others, jaw position or facial asymmetry may also affect facial balance and confidence.

Importantly, not everyone with these problems needs jaw surgery. In many cases, orthodontic treatment alone or other non-surgical approaches may provide a very good solution.

It is never a decision taken lightly. We consider the amount of crowding, the movements required, facial and dental aesthetics, gum health, bone support and, most importantly, each patient’s individual biology.
