It was a great privilege to share my lecture:

On the 29th of August 2026, I will have the pleasure of delivering a full-day BlueM Masterclass in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The day will be built around one central question:
How can we make implant treatment more predictable by understanding and managing the biological system — rather than treating individual problems in isolation?

We will explore four interconnected aspects of modern implantology and oral surgery:

🔹 The Implant Success System — integrating biology, mechanics and clinical decision-making.
🔹 Topical Oxygen Therapy — new strategies for controlling bacterial biofilms and enhancing healing.
🔹 Bone Grafting & Synthetic Biomaterials — understanding the biology of bone quality and the evolution of modern grafting materials.
🔹 Peri-Implant Soft Tissue Topography — reconstructing and conditioning the soft tissues for long-term implant stability.

These are not four separate topics. They are interacting parts of the same biological and clinical system.

From diagnosis and decision-making, to bacterial control, hard-tissue reconstruction and soft-tissue conditioning — predictable implant therapy requires us to think about the whole system.

Two-year follow-up – Standardised protocol

Two years after implant rehabilitation of a missing maxillary premolar, the outcome remains stable, healthy and aesthetically pleasing.

This case followed a standardised biological and digital workflow, including:
• Digital treatment planning
• Guided implant placement
• Osteoinductive synthetic bone grafting (Powerbone Dental Putty)
• Chairside customised anatomical healing abutment (VPI Cervico)
• Topical oxygen therapy for bacterial control and enhanced soft tissue healing (BlueM)
• Careful development of peri-implant soft tissue architecture
• Silver-containing sealer for the prosthetic canal of the customised abutment and the final restoration (SilverPlug).

Long-term success is achieved when every stage of treatment—from planning and surgery to prosthetic design and maintenance—is performed according to sound biological principles.

At the beginning of the year, I shared this immediate implant case, in which a digital workflow and guided surgery were combined with a regenerative, biologically driven treatment protocol.

The comparative CBCT images show the pre-operative digital implant planning on the left and the clinical situation 6 months after loading on the right.

The close correspondence between the virtually planned and final implant position highlights the precision and predictability of the guided surgical workflow.

Equally important, the synthetic silicate β-TCP (Powerbone Dental Putty) used to graft the jumping gap at the time of immediate implant placement supported the regeneration of adequate labial bone volume, with preservation of the peri-implant hard-tissue contour evident at the 6-month follow-up.

Next week, I will be joining colleagues in Malaysia for a webinar exploring the science behind oxygen therapy in implant dentistry and discussing practical clinical protocols for implants, extractions, and bone grafting procedures.

🦷 Why does oxygen matter in implant dentistry?

Successful healing after implant placement, tooth extraction, or bone grafting depends on more than surgical technique alone. The biological environment we create around the surgical site plays a critical role in determining treatment outcomes.

Oxygen is essential for:
✔ Angiogenesis and blood vessel formation
✔ Collagen synthesis and tissue maturation
✔ Immune cell function and bacterial control
✔ Wound healing and tissue regeneration

In recent years, topical oxygen-releasing technologies combined with bioactive agents such as lactoferrin have attracted growing interest as adjuncts to modern surgical protocols.

I’m pleased to share our newly published clinical case report in Cureus:

“Topical Oxygen Therapy and a Zinc-Containing Palatal Stent for Post-surgical Healing: A Case Report of a Large Irritation Fibroma of the Hard Palate”

Modern oral surgery is evolving toward biologically driven, minimally invasive treatment concepts that combine surgical precision with regenerative support, biomaterials, topical oxygen therapy, and practical innovation.

At the same time, this case report also highlights the timeless fundamentals of oral surgery and oral medicine:
• thorough clinical examination
• radiological assessment
• investigation of possible causative factors
• biopsy and differential diagnosis
• histopathological confirmation
• postoperative follow-up and monitoring

The future of modern oral surgery is built on respecting these fundamental diagnostic and surgical principles while integrating new biologic approaches aimed at enhancing healing, controlling bacteria, optimising tissue biology, accelerating recovery, and improving patient experience through minimally invasive supportive therapies.

An excellent Thursday teaching at the Implant Success - The Brazil Implant Course.

I had the pleasure of delivering two 1.5-hour lectures to an excellent group of clinicians and implant dentists beginning their journey in implantology.

The first lecture focused on the importance of controlling pathogenic bacteria while optimising healing in modern oral implantology. We discussed how tissue oxygenation, BlueM Topical Oxygen Therapy, bacterial control, and wound healing strategies can positively influence regenerative outcomes and implant success.

The second lecture explored the fundamentals of bone physiology, histology and regeneration, and their critical importance in oral implantology, focusing on novel synthetic biomaterials that optimise regenerative procedures by supporting the formation of high-quality bone around implants. We also discussed how simplifying surgical protocols through biologically driven approaches can lead to excellent clinical outcomes and long-term implant stability.

Teaching these fundamental concepts to clinicians at the beginning of their implantology journey is always both rewarding and challenging. It is incredibly important to build strong biological and surgical foundations from the very start, helping young clinicians understand not only how procedures are performed, but why they work. Sharing this knowledge early can shape safer, more predictable, and biologically driven clinical practice for the future.

A big thank you to the organisers and all delegates for the warm hospitality, engagement, and excellent discussions throughout the day. It is always inspiring to exchange ideas with colleagues passionate about advancing implant dentistry and regenerative science.

This case demonstrates a fully digital workflow for the management of a failing upper lateral incisor:

• Atraumatic extraction
• Fully-guided immediate implant placement of a Southern DCT implant.
• Dual-zone grafting to preserve both hard and soft tissue architecture using Synthetic Silicate biphasic Powerbone granules and autogenous bone.
• Immediate non-functional loading

Primary stability allowed for immediate provisionalisation, maintaining soft tissue contour and emergence profile from day one.

BlueM gel was used to support bacterial control and enhance soft tissue healing, while SilverPlug was placed to seal the prosthetic screw access—protecting the internal implant environment during this critical phase.

The Cervico System allowed the fabrication of the customised anatomical cervical contour of the restoration.

SilverPlug was applied in accordance with our standardised protocol to seal the prosthetic canal.

A combination of digital accuracy and biologically driven protocols can significantly improve predictability in the aesthetic zone.
