Profile:

Tim Friel is a Reader in Prosthodontics / Consultant at QMUL / Barts Health Trust. He qualified in 1988 from the London Hospital Medical College and worked in various CDS posts until 2006, completing an MSc in Prosthetic Dentistry at the Eastman Dental Institute in 1994. He taught at the school of Medicine and Dentistry part time from 1995 to 2006 and full time since 2006. He was recognised as a specialist in Prosthodontics in 2001 and Special Care Dentistry in 2010.

Tim’s areas of clinical interest include all aspects of removable and fixed prosthodontics and dental care of older people. He is Co-Director for the DClinDent in Prosthodontics at QMUL and leads the clinical teaching in Removable Prosthodontics on the programme.

Lecture Title:
Pragmatic Treatment Planning for Older Patients.

Content:
In this presentation Tim will explore practical approaches to help older patients maintain their dentition. The focus will be on maintaining quality of life and trying to minimise the burden of maintenance that can come with dental care. He will leave the clever stuff to someone else.

Aims:
Explore the main factors to be considered when providing practical dental care for older patients.

Objectives:
1. Consider the relationship between oral health and quality of life.
2. Relate quality of life factors to treatment planning.
3. Apply evidence in clinical decision making.

Qualified at Sheffield university in 2003.
Completed Specialist training in Perio Mclindent from Kings College London and Guy’s hospital 2012.
Works as a specialist periodontist in practice.
Founder of Dentinaltubules in 2008 and runs it as CEO still, with a vision for inspired growth and education for dentistry.
Founded the Tubules Foundation in 2017, with a vision to build schools and education facilities in remote areas of the world.

Lecture Title:
How to convert obstacles into opportunities.

Content:
In this session, Dhru will explore a completely different perspective on problem solving. As we enter a rapidly changing world, influenced by digitisation and changes in demography, remaining true to our healthcare value and thriving become more challenging and yet more important. This talk will venture into the world of how we face these new challenges without loosing our integrity, values and respect as professionals and as a profession.

Profile:
Gan qualified from The London in 1993 and went on to obtain a Masters in Endodontics from Guy’s Hospital 6 years later. Indulging his interest in the Law, he also pursued a Masters in Medical Law from Cardiff University in 2012. These have all helped to give a broad perspective on our profession.

Over the years, Gan has been mainly in practice limited to endodontics while also maintaining his hand in general practice until recently. For 13 years, he also returned to teach undergraduates at Barts and The London until 2021.

Six years ago, two close pilot friends approached him to develop Human Factors training for the dental team. In this time, together, we have presented to various entities on the subject, including individual practices as well as cohorts of foundation dentists/therapists and their nurses along with their respective educational supervisors.

Human Factors training has completely revolutionised the way he thinks about and approaches both his professional and personal lives. Gan is very passionate about this subject and feels that it can be of great benefit to our profession as a whole.

Lecture Title:
Human Factors: Optimising Human Performance in the Dental Setting.

Content:
The session will introduce the concept of Human Factors training as developed in the aviation industry and how it can be applied to us in the dental profession. The session will attempt to demonstrate how to overlay the principles of Human Factors training to everyday situations experienced by the dental team.

Aims:
• Introduce the concept of Human Factors.
• Recognise the effects of Human Factors.
• Apply models to everyday practice to improve patient safety.

Objectives:
• Understand what is meant by Human Factors.
• Understand how Human Factors affect outcomes.
• Understand how application of Human Factors models can reduce risk and adverse outcomes to improve patient safety.

Profile:
Nik Sethi qualified from King's College London in 2009. He has a Master of Science degree in aesthetic dentistry, also at King's College London and completed the MAGdS with the Royal college of Surgeons. Since then he has established himself in private practice in London, with a keen interest for restorative treatment.

Nik has attended several highly respected year courses on restorative dental training including a year course with Tidu Mankoo and Basil Mizrahi. He is also the current vice president of the British Academy of Aesthetic dentistry and a full member.

Nik provides regular teaching courses internationally on advanced aesthetic treatments and is one of the directors of Elevate education alongside Sanjay Sethi and Professor Riaz Yar.

Lecture Title:
Clinical Decision making for posterior teeth: A clear workflow for preparation adhesion and cementation for direct composites and ceramic restorations.

Aims:
Join us as Dr Nik Sethi discusses a clear workflow for decision making to help clinicians treatment plan effectively for posterior teeth especially when cuspal coverage is advised. We will be looking at why restorations fail and helping guide clinicians to a predictable protocol for preparing for both composite restorations and indirect onlays. We will also review modern adhesive principles and discuss a simplified layering technique for large composites as well as an overview on cementation for ceramic onlays.

Daniel is a specialist endodontist practicing in the west end of London and Knightsbridge.

Profile:
Mina Vaidyanathan has been a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry since 2011 at Guy’s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust. She is the clinical lead. Mina qualified in 2002 from Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry. After successfully completing her vocational training in the community dental service and general dental practice in Kent and then completing a maxillofacial post, she embarked on her career in Paediatric Dentistry, firstly working as an Senior house officer at the department of Paediatric dentistry at the Royal London and then entering speciality training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS foundation trust in 2005. She completed a Masters degree in Paediatric Dentistry with merit in 2007 and entered the specialist list in 2008. She passed her exit exams in 2011 and has been a consultant at GSTT since then. She is the lead for the dental trauma service and the paediatric dental cardiac service which she was involved with setting up and expanding over the years. She is an examiner for the ISFE exams and also examines for the MSc in Paediatric Dentistry at Kings College. She is also on the working group for national recruitment in Paediatric dentistry and past chair of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry South East Branch.

Lecture Title:
An update on the management of traumatic dental injuries in children

Content of the session:
My session is going to be an update on the acute and long- term management of Paediatric Dental Trauma. I will look at both primary teeth and permanent teeth with case examples and discuss the current evidence-based guidelines. This will be interactive with a quiz and delegates will get the chance to ask questions.

Aims & Objectives:
To discuss the management of dental alveolar injuries in children
• To classify dentoalveolar injuries in the primary and permanent dentition
• Short term and long-term treatment of injuries
