Gum recession is common, but it shouldn't be ignored.

As the gums recede, the roots of your teeth can become exposed, leading to sensitivity, an increased risk of wear and changes to the appearance of your smile.

The good news is that gum grafting is a well-established procedure that can restore lost gum tissue and help protect your teeth for the future. What's more, not everyone with gum recession needs a gum graft, which is why an assessment by a specialist periodontist is so important.

If you've noticed your gums receding or your teeth becoming more sensitive, we'd be happy to assess your gum health and discuss the most appropriate treatment options.

Your mouth often gives you early warning signs long before a problem becomes painful.

Bleeding gums, persistent bad breath, sensitivity or noticing your teeth looking a little dull are all signs that it's time to book a hygienist appointment.

Regular hygiene visits are about far more than keeping your teeth clean. They help remove plaque and tartar, support healthy gums and give us the opportunity to spot potential problems before they progress.

If it's been a while since your last appointment, there's no better time to get back on track. Your future smile will thank you.

Dental implants are designed to last for many years, but they're not immune to disease.

Peri-implantitis is an infection that affects the tissues surrounding an implant and, if left untreated, can lead to bone loss and even implant failure. The reassuring news is that many implants can be successfully treated and preserved when the problem is identified early.

If you've noticed bleeding, swelling, tenderness or changes around one of your implants, don't ignore it. Early diagnosis gives us the best opportunity to stop the disease progressing and protect your implant for the future.

If you're concerned about your implant, we're here to help.

✨ Before and after gum grafting ✨

This 35-year-old patient came to us concerned about gum recession affecting the lower teeth. Following a thorough assessment, Dr. G. Raveendran () diagnosed multiple areas of gum recession, along with a naturally thin gum tissue type and insufficient protective gum tissue.

Using advanced mucogingival surgery (soft tissue grafting), we treated the lower arch .

The result? A healthier, more stable gum line with improved protection for the teeth and a more balanced appearance.

Gum recession isn't just a cosmetic concern. Left untreated, it can lead to tooth sensitivity, increased risk of decay on exposed root surfaces and, in some cases, further progression of recession.

If you've noticed your gums are receding or your teeth appear longer than they used to, it's worth having them assessed. Early treatment can make a significant difference.
