Who is more likely to lose a tooth - you or an animal?
According to Professor Randolph Nesse from the University of Arizonia there are six factors that makes humans more vulnerable to tooth loss:
☑ Our body is no longer designed to suit our current diet and lifestyle
☑ Pathogens that attack our bodies defences evolve more quickly than we do
☑ Evolution prevents us from jumping to other forms better suited to changing circumstances
☑ Trade-offers - some disadvantages are the by-porduct of adventitious mutations, ie back pain from walking on 2 legs
☑ Cost - some genes give an early advantage only to lead to an early death later
We treat symptoms and so delay dealing with causes until more damage has been done
