We would like to update all our members and overseas dentists who requested us to raise their concerns with the GDC regarding the recent increase in the ORE Part 2 examination fee.
Our Course Lead, Dr. Zain, had a discussion with the GDC representatives during the Birmingham Dental Show, where we raised concerns on behalf of all DDC members and overseas dentists regarding the significant hike in the ORE Part 2 fee.
During the discussion, we strongly highlighted how this sudden increase will directly affect many aspirants, especially candidates who have been waiting for a long time to secure an exam booking. We emphasized the financial burden this places on overseas dentists pursuing their registration journey in the UK.
The GDC representatives explained that the increase is linked to efforts to expand exam capacity and improve availability for candidates. They mentioned that the ORE Part 2 examination will be conducted through an external contractor, UCL, and that operational and contractual costs associated with this arrangement have contributed to the increased examination fee plus VAT added.
They also acknowledged that they are fully aware of the concerns and complaints raised by candidates regarding the cost burden. However, they stated that their current priority is to increase exam capacity, reduce the booking bottleneck, and provide opportunities for as many candidates as possible.
In addition, the GDC informed us that they are planning to introduce a new ORE exam booking system & update by the end of this year. According to their representatives, this is expected to be a positive step towards improving and streamlining the booking process for future exams.
Next ORE-1 Booking in June and Part-2 will be July Time.
