Sometimes your gums may have receded, and this can make your teeth look longer.⁣
Or, there may be too much gum on display if the gums have grown over the teeth, making your teeth look shorter.

This can have a dramatic effect on your appearance and minor surgery may be required to correct this.

The gum margin is repositioned in order to reduce the amount of gum on display or expose more of the teeth to reveal their true size.

There can also be situations where patients are concerned that gum recession has left their teeth looking too long. To help with this, we can bring the gum down to reposition it over the teeth, cover the recession and improve the appearance.

A case where a young lady complained - "I don't like my smile because my teeth are too small and my smile is too gummy!"🦷⁣
Crown lengthening surgery was performed on all 6 teeth in the upper anterior region to expose more of the patient's own natural teeth and solve the issue of the gummy smile.

Following this, natural composite bonding was performed by to give her a strikingly beautiful new smile which she loves!😁

Aesthetic crown lengthening - Upper 2-2➡️⁣
This young lady didn't like her gummy smile. She wanted to see if something could be done - but did NOT ❌want any composite bonding/veneers.

This was a challenging case where the teeth were crown lengthened using a combination of gingivoplasty and osteoplasty. This exposed more of her natural tooth structure, but CRUCIALLY did not expose any of the roots of her teeth.

The stunning result left her with ideally shaped gingival architecture and the uncovering of the full-length of her natural teeth, giving her a result she has been delighted with!
Her only complaint? She wished she'd had this done 10 years earlier....!

🦷Before🦷The patient was referred complaining of pain and swelling associated with her LR6 implant placed a few years earlier in Italy.⁣
There was pus draining from the area and a deep pocketing of 8mm

On examination, it became apparent that the implant had actually fractured - a relatively rare occurrence.

🦷After 🦷The failed implant had been removed and there is extensive loss of buccal bone, leaving a large defect.

The patient would like to have a new implant placed here after healing is complete.

Had the implant been left, bone loss would have been progressive, affecting future implant placement in this area.

The power of a smile is immense😁We notice when people have nice teeth and a beautiful smile. But we quickly pick up on things when something "isn't quite right".⁣
Perception of "beauty" relies heavily on a symmetrical appearance - this lovely lady wasn't happy with the "funny gum appearance" of her front teeth. She was complaining "my front teeth are not the same height and they look crooked"

Crown lengthening surgery was performed around the upper anterior teeth to remove the excessive gum and provide her with a beautiful symmetrical smile which she was delighted with!

We’ve been seeing a recent increase in demand from patients like this lovely lady who want to “sort my gummy smile!”
This is a perfect example whereby Dento-alveolar compensation occurs due to excessive tooth wear (in this case as a result of both attrition and erosion). 🧐
Why does this happen? Because as the front teeth get more worn down, functional occlusion is maintained through modification of the dentoalveolar complex.
Function is maintained….but the aesthetics suffer! 😬
So….can we do anything about it??
YES!

A combination of restorative and periodontal treatment will allow me to reposition the Gumline and put it back where it should be. And then the teeth will be built up beautifully by the immensely talented

Great teamwork on a great patient with a lovely result! 🏆

This lady was referred to me by for aesthetic crown lengthening

Following a thorough pre-surgical work-up and excellent communication from my Prosthodontist specialist colleague, I had all the relevant information to get to work….🦷🌟

Crown lengthening surgery was done in a single visit with minimal post-op pain.

Patient was then referred back to Kostas for the final restoration. Result! 💪

“I now can’t stop smiling” - how she greeted me at our review just 2 weeks ago. Makes it all worthwhile! 🙌
