Here are three options I may discuss with patients:

Single implant
For one missing tooth, a dental implant can support an individual replacement tooth, restoring the gap without relying on the neighbouring teeth.

Implant-supported bridge
When several teeth are missing together, implants can be used to support a bridge, allowing us to replace multiple teeth with fewer implants.

All-on-4
For patients who need to replace a complete arch of teeth, four strategically positioned implants can be used to support a fixed full-arch restoration.

There isn’t one implant solution that’s right for everyone. Your oral health, bone levels, goals and individual circumstances all need to be carefully assessed before deciding on the most appropriate approach.

If you’re considering dental implants, the first step is understanding your options.

Some everyday habits could be doing more harm to your teeth than you realise.

1. Using your teeth as tools
Opening packets, tearing tags or biting lids might seem harmless, but it can lead to chips, cracks and unnecessary wear.

2. Brushing straight after acidic food or drinks
Acid temporarily softens the enamel, so brushing immediately afterwards can contribute to enamel wear. Give your mouth some time to recover first.

3. Ignoring bleeding gums
Seeing blood when you brush isn’t something to simply accept. Bleeding gums can be a sign of gum inflammation and are worth discussing with your dental team.

Small changes to your daily habits can make a big difference to your long-term oral health.

Which one are you guilty of? šŸ‘€

Sometimes, seeing your smile differently can change the conversation.

An iTero scanner creates a detailed digital 3D representation of your teeth and bite — and one of the things I particularly like about digital scanning is that **you can see it too**.

Rather than simply talking about what I can see clinically, I can use the scan to help explain your teeth, bite and the treatment options we may be considering.

Depending on your individual needs, digital scans can also be used when planning certain treatments, including InvisalignĀ® treatment, restorative dentistry and aspects of implant treatment.

For me, technology is most useful when it helps make dentistry easier to understand and treatment planning more informed.

Because it’s your mouth — you should be part of the conversation. 🦷

⭐ Feedback like this means so much.

Dental treatment can feel daunting, particularly when it comes to having a wisdom tooth removed, so hearing that a patient felt reassured and at ease throughout their appointment is wonderful.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and for trusting me with your care. 🦷

And 10 stars? I'll happily take those! āšŸ™Œ

🦷 The implant itself is only one part of implant dentistry.

Before we ever get to placing an implant, there are questions I want answered.

Is the mouth healthy?
Is there enough bone to support an implant?
Are the gums stable?
Where does the implant need to sit for the planned restoration?
And, most importantly, is an implant actually the right option for this patient?

Good implant dentistry starts with careful assessment and planning — not simply filling a gap.

Depending on your individual circumstances, this may involve scans and other investigations, discussions around alternatives, and sometimes additional procedures before implant placement is considered.

For me, the planning stage is just as important as the treatment itself.

Considering dental implants? Let's have a conversation about your options.

As a dentist, I spend a lot of time talking about brushing, cleaning between the teeth and looking after your gums. But smoking is another important part of the oral health conversation.

Smoking is associated with an increased risk of gum disease, tooth loss and oral cancer, as well as staining and bad breath.

Stoptober is a great opportunity to make a change — and you don’t have to tackle it without support.

If you’re trying to quit this month, make looking after your mouth part of the journey too. Your teeth and gums are worth investing in.

Flavoured coffees, hot chocolates and seasonal specials can contain added sugars, particularly when syrups and toppings are involved.

You don’t have to say goodbye to your favourite autumn drink. From a dental perspective, it’s worth thinking about how often your teeth are exposed to sugar throughout the day.

My tip? Enjoy sweeter drinks with a meal where possible, rather than sipping them over a long period, and keep water your everyday go-to.

Enjoy the cosy season — just give your teeth some thought too. šŸ‚šŸ¦·

It’s an understandable question — and one I’m always happy to discuss with patients.

Where clinically appropriate, preserving your natural tooth is an important consideration. Depending on the problem, treatments such as a restoration or root canal treatment may sometimes provide an alternative to extraction.

There are circumstances, however, where removing a tooth may be recommended — for example, when it is severely damaged, affected by extensive decay or infection, or cannot predictably be restored.

Before any treatment, I’ll assess the tooth, explain the available options and discuss the benefits and risks so you can make an informed decision about your care.

I’d love to hear from you!

If you’ve been a patient of mine at Hyde Park Dental Clinic or Smilepod Jubilee Place, I’d really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to leave a Google review.

Whether you’ve had a routine appointment, InvisalignĀ®, restorative or cosmetic dentistry, dental implants, or another treatment, your feedback is incredibly valuable.

Reviews not only mean a great deal to me personally, but they can also help someone who is looking for a dentist feel a little more confident about taking that first step.

If you’ve had a positive experience, I’d be very grateful if you would share it.

šŸ“ You can leave a review on either the Hyde Park Dental Clinic or Smilepod Jubilee Google page.

Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share their experience — I really do appreciate it.

You may have noticed that your teeth can look perfectly fine in the mirror, but then suddenly appear much more yellow in a photograph.

There’s actually a good reason for this.

šŸ’” Lighting matters. Warm indoor lighting can make teeth appear more yellow, while natural daylight can give a completely different impression.

šŸ“± Your phone camera can also alter colours through automatic white balance and image processing.

🦷 And importantly, natural teeth aren’t actually bright white. Enamel is slightly translucent, so some of the naturally warmer colour of the dentine underneath shows through.

The colour of your lips, skin and even your clothing can also change the contrast and make your teeth appear lighter or darker.

So if you’ve ever been caught out by a particularly unflattering photo of your smile, don’t panic! Your camera may not be giving you an accurate representation of your natural tooth colour.

If you are concerned about the colour of your teeth, it’s always worth discussing it with your dentist. There are different reasons teeth can change colour, and the right approach depends on what’s causing it.
