Endodontist
An endodontist is a dental surgeon who specialises in the treatment of endodontic problems. The term ‘endodontic’ stems from the Greek words ‘endo’ – inside and ‘odont’ – tooth, and treatment often involves root canal therapy. All dentists receive training in endodontic treatment in dental school and can perform endodontic procedures as general dentists. However, it is often necessary

for your general dentist to refer endodontic cases to an Endodontist. An endodontist (or a specialist in endodontics) has undertaken post-graduate advanced training in endodontics for one to three years following their dental degree, and will have the letters MSc (Master of Science) or MClinDent (Master of Clinical Dentistry) after their names. Endodontists perform routine and complex procedures including surgical procedures and are experienced in diagnosing causes of oral and facial pain.

More great feedback from a recent patient shows we must be doing something right!

"I would highly recommend this clinic. I was referred by my regular dentist for a root canal. I had an abscess which was hurting and they saw me straight away. Dr Vida Adib is extremely competent, absolutely focussed on her work and takes time to explain the treatment. She is also empathetic, which helped me as a nervous patient. A nerve was inflamed and she was painstaking in keeping me topped up with anaesthetic - no sense of rush. The nurse Fabiola was also very kind." - Caroline

When should you see and Endodontist?

If you're experiencing tooth pain or sensitivity, suspect a cracked tooth or suffered dental trauma, or your dentist recommended root canal treatment, you should see an endodontist who specialises in diagnosing and treating tooth pain.

The American Association of Endodontists has some great patient guidance on saving your natural teeth - https://www.aae.org/patients/

The Myths Around Root Canals - 3 Myths to dispel about root canals to put you at ease:
𝟭. 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗳𝘂𝗹.
Endodontists are experts in pain management, most cases can be treated quickly and comfortably.
𝟮. 𝗥𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.
There is no valid, scientific evidence linking root canal treatment to disease elsewhere in the body.
𝟯. 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗮 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
Endodontic treatment has a high success rate, and many root canal-treated teeth last a lifetime.
