Do we all know what gravity does?
A bit is generally kept in the appropriate position by cheek pieces of some sort and to some degree will stop lateral movement of the bit. This is vital to make sure the bit works in the correct manner for which is designed and to prevent injury or pain.
Obviously kind thoughtful hands and a rider with an independent seat are grade A , however we are all on a journey and I’m definitely a neck strap advocate
To encourage a horse to soften and go about his training in pain free un-restricted way he needs a correctly fittted bit that allows him freedom to move his tongue. Tongue pressure is the most common cause of Oral discomfort in a bitted equine.
If the tongue has applied pressure that the individual equine feels is excessive to him he will draw back his tongue, in turn pressure will be applied on his temporal mandibular joint and his hyoid apparatus ,consequently which can result in pain and can prevent him from moving freely.
If a tongue is strapped down it makes it very difficult almost impossible to swallow , please go ahead and try it for yourselves.
Even with the information above please consider when seeing ads such has these definitely not for children’s hands.
Very few have the balance and expertise to use such things and even then it makes me shudder. Non of us are perfect all the time but who would pay the price ?
