An Obturator- from the Latin meaning to block/stop, is a prosthetic denture that is used when a patient will have had part of the upper palate removed, this results in a passage from the roof of the mouth to the nasal cavity.
The obturator fills the gap to facilitate eating and drinking also enabling clearer speech.
It is most commonly required as a result of cancers or growths that are removed but similar prosthetics can be used to help patients with a cleft palate.

Hi facebookers. It’s been a while but thought we’d share a very special patient. We ran a feature using pics and explaining the journey in last months City Life Magazine. If anyone didn’t see, here’s the results Matt achieved after the patients experienced what were truly unfortunate circumstances. Two front teeth snapping over the same weekend leaving her confidence at an ultimate low. Seeking advice from a Dentist the patient was told that implants couldn’t be placed and was referred to Lichfield Smiles for a denture to be made.
Matt created a denture that looks beautifully natural, lifts the lip and fits perfectly….see the results for yourself.
Happy tears, relief that spmething could be done to help and full confidence back and rightly so.. “Matt’s given me my life back”. MW.

Supper excited to be taking part in the Christmas Tree Festival this year at Lichfield Cathedral.
Pop along and see the effort made by local businesses, schools and charity’s. It’s all fun and they really do look beautiful and put you in the Christmas spirit.
