When ci******es terminate your teeth...

In the interests of sceince I donned my rubber gloves, white coat and protective boots and tried Coke Life. Yuk - it was terrible. Even the twenty-odd grammes of sugar can't disguise the taste. It reminded me of the economy colas from my youth.

If you like cola drinks go with the aspartame sweetened ones.

Q. Which is better, brushing once a day for four minutes or twice a day for two minutes each?
A. Twice a day, because the plaque has less hardening time.
I say "Frequency trumps ferocity" - true for so many things.

Oxygen eh, doncha luv it? So do your friendly mouth bacteria. Oxygen in - dental misery out.

Mouth bacteria are your friend! No really. Eschew disinfectant mouth washes.

Prevention is always better than cure. And twice as much for dentistry.

Can a chipped tooth possibly be a healthy tooth?

Unsurprisingly it can. Teeth have an innate self-sharpening mechanism. The outer layer (enamel) is harder than the inner layer (dentine). When the enamel is worn sufficiently to expose the dentine the differential wear creates sharp edges from the enamel. When the enamel is unsupported a little breaks off. Is the tooth worn out? No. Will it go decayed? No. So it's a healthy tooth then? Yes, but it's a bit rough. Have it smoothed professionally, or put up with it while it smooths off naturally. More detail on my bleug. (Grrrr Facebook - when will you let us edit posts for typos?)

Fruit juice softens your teeth. Wait a few minutes before brushing to allow the teeth to re-harden. How long? I'm saying about 20 minutes.

Vomit - it's all over the news.

Whatever the cause, the result is a mouth full of acid. Acid that softens your enamel. Brush straight away and the enamel is damaged.

Just rinse. Wait an hour before you brush.
