Harriet Franklin equine dentistry BEVA & BVDA

Harriet Franklin equine dentistry BEVA & BVDA BEVA & BVDA Equine dental technician covering all of Cornwall and some of Devon I have had horses all my life and have ridden since the age of two.

Coming from a family of Veterinary Surgeons (dad, grandad, uncle and veterinary nurse aunt) it was a natural progression to want to help and work with horses. I went to Hartpury College in 2007 to study Equine Dental Science BSc (Hons) and graduated in 2010 with a 2:1. I started my business in June 2010 and have been working and living in North Cornwall ever since. I passed my British Equine Veter

inary Association (BEVA) and British Veterinary Dental Association (BVDA) exam in March 2015. I am fully insured and a full member of the British Association Equine Dental Technicians (BAEDT). I have a very quiet and gentle approach and aim to work on all equines without sedation, however if an animal requires sedation due to the severity of work or wolf tooth removal this can be arranged. Routine dental treatments are essential to ensure the horse is comfortable and able to eat correctly. Every equine including field companions should be seen a minimum of once a year to ensure problems are caught early. Competition horses should be seen twice a year (every 6 months) to ensure they are comfortable and performing to the best of their ability.

Currently juggling radiotherapy and CPD!

I’m at the British Association of Equine Dental Technicians Congress & AGM at Wolverhampton Racecourse today and tomorrow. Looking forward to learning, networking and bringing even more knowledge back to benefit the horses in my care. 🐴✨

Learning never stops! 📚

I wanted to share a really positive update with you all 💛

I’ve had my results back and the best news is I will NOT need chemotherapy 🥳 This is such a huge relief and I’m so, so grateful.

My lumpectomy showed clear margins, and there was no spread to my lymph nodes, which is another massive positive. I will need to have radiotherapy as the next step in my treatment, but I’m feeling really hopeful moving forward.

I’m hoping to be back to work around mid to late June, all being well. I’ll keep my page updated so you know exactly when I’m returning.

Thank you all so much for your support, patience, and understanding — it honestly means everything to me 💛

💥 Just a little update from me. 💥

After one false start, I’ve had my lumpectomy and I’m delighted to say that Keith the cancer has officially been evicted.

I’m definitely uncomfortable and attempting to rest, although anyone who knows me will know that taking it easy has never really been my thing. Between the horses, the dog, and my constantly busy brain, I’m not exactly a natural at sitting down and doing nothing. Sleep is also still fairly non-existent at the moment, as this very early post probably gives away!

For now, I’ll need to take at least a month off to recover, rest, and be repeatedly reminded not to overdo it. I should then have more information about my treatment plan and what happens next.

Thank you so much for bearing with me and for all your support — it’s hugely appreciated while I focus on healing and doing my best to take it easy for once.

❤️

EVERYONE CHECK YOUR BO***ES!! Any slight change in shape or texture GET IT CHECKED. My lump was 3cm and I could never feel it, and the surgeon struggled too! It was a puckering on the skin and a very slight change in shape (no one else could see) that made me get it checked. And I AM SO PLEASED I DID

Not the update i wanted to be giving ….. my operation was cancelled due to an emergency. I arrived at the hospital at 8:30am, had the radioactive injection, signed in at 11am and sat patiently waiting to be called, I was walked down and sat outside the theatre at 2:30pm and was told their was an emergency and my op would be after, in roughly an hour. At 4pm it was cancelled. So close yet so far.

The emotional rollercoaster was a lot to deal with. I feel exhausted and completely discombobulated.

Thank you for all your kind messages, cards and comments it honestly means so much to me 🫶🏻🫶🏻

My next surgery date is the 18th March, so I will be working up until then.

Let’s hope and pray this one goes ahead. 🤞

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone for the kind messages, support and patience over the last couple of weeks — it honestly means more than I can say 🫶🏻.

I’m up at Derriford three times this week and the stress of running a business alongside this diagnosis, while juggling multiple hospital appointments, has been a challenge to say the least.

I have an appointment with my consultant this Thursday 29th for MRI results, and should know more after that — I’ll then be able to get back to cracking on with work properly, fitting in as many of you as I can before I stop for my operation, and have more clarity on the treatment required afterwards.

Thank you again for bearing with me — I’m really grateful for such supportive clients ❤️

It’s not easy for me to share this, but I’ve been diagnosed with breast cancer.

I’ll continue working up until my operation, but hospital appointments may mean I need to move bookings at short notice. I really appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

After surgery and treatment I’ll need around two weeks to recover, possibly longer. Thank you so much for all your kindness, support, and understanding — it truly means so much to me 🤍
