Series: Things We Wish You Knew
Your puffy red gums are mad at you! They are angry and sore, and trying to show you ‼️🔴💥🚩
Healthy gums are pink in colour, and firm in texture, sitting comfortably right up to your teeth.
If you notice your gums are:
🚩 Red
🚩 Puffy
🚩 Loose around your teeth
🚩 Bleeding on pressure/brushing
🚩 Smelly
you are seeing signs of gum disease.
The good news is, once you’re aware of this, it’s easy to fix!
You just need to show your gums some love 🩵
Do these things and you’ll see an improvement in your gum health in no time 💗🤍
🫧 Floss. Physically removing plaque and debris from in between your teeth every day is the best way to avoid upsetting your gums. By leaving it there, your gums are being irritated by the bacteria.
🫧 Brush gently onto your gums. Using a small, round electric toothbrush head, go up onto your gums when brushing your teeth. People often miss this when making their way around their mouth, but it’s just as important.
🫧 Only use correctly fitting whitening trays. Whitening gels can be harsh on the gums and cause irritation. If you use trays that don’t sit correctly on your teeth, the gel can come into contact with your gums during the process and make them sore and angry.
🫧 See your hygienist regularly. Having a professional clean every 6 months is one of the best ways to prevent gum disease. Your hygienist has professional tools to remove hardened plaque that you cannot remove at home. By removing the hard plaque, it reduces the chance of bacteria to hang around and make your gums angry.
