Series: Things We Wish You Knew

Your puffy red gums are mad at you! They are angry and sore, and trying to show you ‼️🔴💥🚩

Healthy gums are pink in colour, and firm in texture, sitting comfortably right up to your teeth.

If you notice your gums are:

🚩 Red
🚩 Puffy
🚩 Loose around your teeth
🚩 Bleeding on pressure/brushing
🚩 Smelly

you are seeing signs of gum disease.

The good news is, once you’re aware of this, it’s easy to fix!

You just need to show your gums some love 🩵

Do these things and you’ll see an improvement in your gum health in no time 💗🤍

🫧 Floss. Physically removing plaque and debris from in between your teeth every day is the best way to avoid upsetting your gums. By leaving it there, your gums are being irritated by the bacteria.

🫧 Brush gently onto your gums. Using a small, round electric toothbrush head, go up onto your gums when brushing your teeth. People often miss this when making their way around their mouth, but it’s just as important.

🫧 Only use correctly fitting whitening trays. Whitening gels can be harsh on the gums and cause irritation. If you use trays that don’t sit correctly on your teeth, the gel can come into contact with your gums during the process and make them sore and angry.

🫧 See your hygienist regularly. Having a professional clean every 6 months is one of the best ways to prevent gum disease. Your hygienist has professional tools to remove hardened plaque that you cannot remove at home. By removing the hard plaque, it reduces the chance of bacteria to hang around and make your gums angry.

Arlo, the cutie from the house tour, had a few questions for us during his time at work ⁉️

If you have a little cutie yourself, it’s a great insight into what they might be thinking when they visit their dentist but haven’t asked ☺️

Show them this next time you’re taking them to the dentist to help them feel more informed about what’s happening.

And make sure you’re following for part two ✌️

Biting your nails isn’t just obvious from your non existent manicure 💅

Your habit shows in your smile too!

Keratin, the tough protective protein that nails are formed from, can damage the edge of your natural tooth edge and/or composites if repeatedly bitten with force.

Over time, this wear and tear gives your teeth a rough edge, and can be costly when it comes to chipping composite.

It can also promote over excursion of your jaw muscles through biting and clenching, leading to a more pronounced jaw.

If you find yourself in nail biting situations, here’s some helpful tips to stop;

💅 Bitter nail polish

💅 Occupy your hands (stress ball, fidget toy, spinner ring)

💅 Chewing gum

💅 File nails regularly

💅 Apply hand moisturiser

💅 Habit reversal (the moment you feel the urge, sit on your hands or cross your arms for 2 minutes until wave passes)

House tour from Arlo’s perspective (the commentary 😂💩)

Summer holidays are tough going, with a lot of weeks for working parents to figure out how to entertain their children.

We decided to put Arlo to work and asked him to film some content for us, to which he happily agreed.

We think it’s possibly one of the cutest narrated videos we’ve ever heard, don’t you? 😊🥹

Series: Things we wish you knew 🦷

No pain doesn’t always mean that you’re dental health is all ok. Waiting for pain as an indication to book a dental exam is usually too late.

Early dental issues are often small and go unnoticed.

Cavities begin on the enamel. They can appear as dark or white spots/areas and not cause any issues.

Eventually, they work their way through the enamel and into the dentine, which is a softer and therefore more vulnerable to attacks.

Caries destroy dentine at a much faster rate than they do on enamel. Cold sensitivity is usually felt at this stage.

If the caries reach the pulp, the nerve inside the tooth providing sensation and blood supply, pain can be felt and swelling can also occur. This usually results in root therapy.

So spotting the early signs is vital.

Vital for pain free dental treatment.

Vital to save the longevity of your tooth.

Vital to keep the costs of your dental visits low.

Our professionals are specially trained to spot early signs of caries including white spots, dark areas, fractures, and sensitivity.

With radiographs, they can also assess what’s happening inside the tooth at a dentine level, to prevent potential damage to the pulp.

This is why regular dental exams are so important.

We monitor changes every 6 months, which is the time it can take for a small change to appear.

Prevention is always better than cure.

Kicking off our new series “Things we wish you knew” with a wild stat 🤯

A study commissioned by Oral-B, involving 2,000 UK adults, found that 80% believed they were brushing correctly, whilst only 12% were judged to be following the recommended oral care practices. So how many of these can you say yes to?

🦷 Do you brush twice a day?

🦷 Do you brush for 2 minutes?

🦷 Do you floss every day?

🦷 Do you use a fluoride toothpaste?

If you said yes to all of these (honestly!!) then congratulations, you fall within the 12% of UK adults who are doing everything correctly.

We should add that for optimal dental health, you should also be visiting the dentist every 6 months for a dental exam and hygiene clean. So, have you booked your next visit?
