Many people think a dental check-up is simply about looking for cavities.

In reality, every examination is a comprehensive assessment of your oral health, designed to identify small changes before they become larger problems.

During your appointment, we’ll carefully examine your teeth, gums, existing fillings and crowns, as well as the soft tissues inside your mouth. If needed, digital X-rays allow us to identify concerns that aren’t visible to the naked eye, helping us diagnose problems earlier and plan treatment before discomfort develops.

One of the biggest advantages of attending regular dental examinations is that many problems can be managed before they become painful or require more complex treatment.

Our focus has always been prevention. Helping you maintain a healthy smile is far better than waiting until something goes wrong.

For many people, it’s not the treatment they worry about, it’s simply walking through the door.

If you’ve ever felt nervous about visiting the dentist, you’re certainly not alone. Helping our patients feel relaxed, comfortable and cared for is just as important to us as providing high-quality dental treatment.

We’re incredibly grateful to Chris for taking the time to share his experience with us:

“Couldn’t recommend Moss Grove Dental Practice enough. All brilliant staff and, for someone who isn’t the best with needles, they always make me feel relaxed and calm. Raj has done wonders with my teeth also.”

Thank you, Chris, for your kind words. Knowing we’ve helped you feel more at ease and confident in your smile means a great deal to the whole team.

If you’ve been putting off a visit because you’re feeling anxious, we’d love to help make your experience a positive one too.

Small habits, practised consistently, can make a huge difference to your oral health over time.

A healthy smile starts with:
- Brushing twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
- Cleaning between your teeth daily
- Maintaining a balanced diet and limiting sugary snacks
- Attending regular dental examinations and hygiene appointments

Regular visits allow us to monitor your oral health, provide personalised advice, and often identify potential problems before they become bigger concerns.

At Moss Grove Dental Practice, we believe prevention is always better than cure, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.

Whether you’ve recently visited or it’s been a little while, taking that first step towards prioritising your oral health is always worthwhile.

😬 Do you wake up with headaches, jaw pain, or sensitive teeth?

You could be grinding or clenching your teeth without realising it.

Teeth grinding, also known as bruxism, often happens during sleep and can lead to:
- Worn or chipped teeth
- Jaw discomfort or clicking
- Frequent headaches
- Increased tooth sensitivity

Many people are unaware they grind their teeth until signs begin to appear.

Regular dental examinations allow us to identify early signs of tooth wear and discuss ways to help protect your teeth and jaw.

If you’ve noticed any of these symptoms, it may be worth mentioning them at your next appointment.

It might seem like the best thing to do, but brushing immediately after consuming acidic foods or drinks can actually damage your teeth.

Foods and drinks such as:
- Citrus fruits
- Fizzy drinks
- Wine
- Tomatoes

These foods and drinks can temporarily soften the enamel on your teeth. Brushing straight away may wear away this softened enamel over time.

Instead, we recommend:
✔ Rinsing your mouth with water after eating
✔ Waiting around 30 to 60 minutes before brushing
✔ Using fluoride toothpaste twice daily

Small changes to your routine can make a big difference in protecting your smile.

Not every dental problem can be seen just by looking at your teeth. X-rays allow us to assess areas beneath the surface and help identify concerns early, often before symptoms develop.

Dental X-rays can help us detect:
✔ Early decay between teeth
✔ Infection around the roots of teeth
✔ Bone levels and signs of gum disease
✔ Hidden cracks or damage
✔ Developing teeth and changes below the gum line

X-rays are only taken when clinically necessary and help us diagnose problems accurately, plan treatment carefully, and monitor changes over time.

Many patients also wonder whether dental X-rays are safe. Modern digital dental X-rays use very low levels of radiation, and every X-ray is carefully justified to ensure the benefits outweigh any potential risk.

Early diagnosis often means simpler, more comfortable treatment and can help prevent more complex issues developing later.
