Friday evening, learning something I genuinely enjoy.

Spending a few hours on a veneer preparation webinar before a busy weekend in practice.

One of the things I love most about dentistry is that there’s always another technique to refine and another opportunity to learn. Continuous education means bringing the very best care back to my patients.

Every patient relaxes in a different way.

Some enjoy listening to their favourite music (I’ve had everything from Prince to classical 🎶), while others prefer aquariums, Scottish landscapes or peaceful walks through beautiful places.

I always ask what helps them feel most relaxed, because no two patients are the same. Creating a calm, comfortable environment is just as important to me as providing excellent dental care.

Today, though, my wonderful nurse, Paige, surprised me.

Knowing how much Valencia means to me, she put on a beautiful walk through the city for our patients to enjoy while we worked. Seeing the streets, the beaches and the City of Arts and Sciences brought the biggest smile to my face.

It was such a thoughtful gesture and reminded me how lucky I am to work with such a caring team.

And yes… with the air conditioning keeping everyone cool during this Northampton heatwave, it almost felt as though we’d escaped to the Mediterranean for a little while. ☀️🇪🇸

After 23 years in dentistry, I still believe that some of the best investment we can make is in continuing education.

This week I travelled to London to continue my Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry with Tipton Training.

One of today’s messages particularly resonated with me:

“The hand can only reproduce what the brain can see.”

Aesthetic dentistry is not simply about making teeth look beautiful. It is about understanding shape, proportion, texture and the way light interacts with tooth surfaces to create natural-looking results.

The smallest changes in contour can completely alter how a smile is perceived, and it is these details that make the difference between a restoration that looks like dentistry and one that simply looks like a tooth.

I am grateful for the opportunity to keep learning, refining my skills and bringing new knowledge back to my patients.

Learning never stops.

Sometimes a smile means more than we see at first glance.

This was a very special case for me. We completed the final refinements with composite bonding to enhance the balance, shape and harmony of her smile.

Seeing her reaction when she looked in the mirror reminded me how powerful dentistry can be. Moments like this are why I love what I do.

Dentistry can restore much more than teeth — sometimes it restores confidence and the freedom to smile again.

✨ This weekend I attended the Aligner Dental Academy Annual Symposium, and it was truly inspiring.

I met fantastic clinicians, learned a great deal, and I’m excited to start applying this knowledge in my daily practice as an Invisalign provider. An amazing venue, great organisation (and even better food!) made it an unforgettable experience.

Continuous learning is at the heart of what I do — always with one goal in mind: to keep improving and provide the best possible care for my patients.
