Scottish Government- This should be TOP priority. A significant proportion of our child population are suffering pain and infection for extended periods of time. This disproportionately affects children in poverty and those with disabilities.

1 in 4 patients facing tooth extractions under general anaesthetic in Scotland are waiting over a year.

We've gathered the evidence.

Politicians, policymakers and practitioners need to come together.

Our patients deserve better.

The truth behind the advertising! Check food labels for sugars- then at least you know what they’re eating

Latest figures show 9 in 10 children and 4 in 5 adults are exceeding their recommended daily sugar limits, increasing the risk of lifelong health issues, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes and tooth decay.

Nutrition, health and marketing claims used by food companies, such as “high fibre,” “natural energy,” and “smart snacking” can create a misleading ‘health halo' effect. This can often encourage an overestimation of the health benefits, distracting from the potential unhealthy reality of some products, and making it even harder for people to make informed choices, contributing to an increased risk of these health conditions.

Therefore, this Sugar Awareness Week the theme is “Cut Through the Sweet Talk: What You See Isn’t What You Eat”. Unpacking the reality behind marketing and nutrition claims to ask the critical question, ‘Are products really as healthy as they seem?’

💦 My top tip for June- please please only put water in your “water bottle!” 💦 There’s been a rise in diluting juice being brought to school over the past decade ✏️ 🍊 Sweet drinks are acidic- every sip is an Acid attack to enamel. 😞 It can thin teeth very quickly - and erosion is irreversible! 🧪 🦷 Be a water wonder! 💦

Our hot topic this month is Dental Erosion. Erosion is the loss of tooth enamel caused by an acid attack. Try to keep acidic snacks and drinks to mealtimes. For more info on erosion follow this link: https://www.dentalhealth.org/dental-erosion
