Does a cold drink cause a sudden twinge in your teeth? 🦷

Tooth sensitivity commonly develops when protective enamel wears away or the sensitive dentine underneath becomes exposed.

Two possible causes include:

• Frequent acidic foods and fizzy drinks
• Brushing too firmly or using a hard toothbrush

Help protect your teeth by using a soft toothbrush, brushing gently and waiting at least one hour after consuming acidic foods or drinks before brushing. A toothpaste formulated for sensitive teeth may also help.

Sensitivity can have other causes, including gum recession, decay, grinding or a cracked tooth. If it is sudden, severe, affects one tooth or continues for several weeks, arrange a dental assessment.
