Noticing your teeth looking longer than they used to? 👀

You could be experiencing gum recession — where the gum tissue gradually moves away from the tooth, exposing more of the tooth surface.

Some common causes include:

🪥 Brushing too hard – aggressive brushing or using a hard-bristled toothbrush can damage the gum tissue.

🦷 Gum disease – inflammation and infection can cause the tissues supporting your teeth to break down.

🧬 Genetics – some people naturally have thinner or more vulnerable gum tissue.

😬 Teeth grinding or clenching – excessive forces can contribute to damage around the teeth and gums.

💉 Piercings or trauma – lip or tongue piercings can repeatedly rub against the gums and contribute to recession.

Gum recession isn’t something to ignore, as it can lead to increased sensitivity, exposed root surfaces and a higher risk of root decay.

If you’ve noticed your gums changing, book an assessment with your dentist or dental hygienist so the cause can be identified and managed early. ✨
