This is your sign to do your research before booking that overseas smile package.

We completely understand the appeal. The results look amazing on social media, the price is a fraction of what you might pay at home and the idea of coming back with a brand new smile is incredibly tempting.

But here is what those glossy before and after photos rarely show you.

In many overseas veneer packages, healthy teeth are ground down so aggressively that what is actually being placed is a crown, not a veneer. The difference is significant.

A true veneer is a wafer-thin shell that sits gently on the surface of a healthy tooth, preserving as much natural structure as possible. A crown requires the removal of a far greater amount of tooth, and in some cases, perfectly healthy teeth are being destroyed simply to create a fast cosmetic result.

And once that natural tooth structure is removed, it cannot be replaced.

The long term consequences - ongoing sensitivity, failing restorations, repeated dental work and a lifetime of managing what was done - can far outweigh any short term saving.
