On average, almost 8 appointments are cancelled late or not attended each day.
That’s around 3 hours of clinical time lost — time that could have been used to care for other patients.

Missed appointments have a real impact and make it harder for us to continue providing NHS dental care for our community.

£3139.56 worth of treatment has already been completed for our NHS patients but remains unpaid, despite follow-up calls.

At a time when providing NHS dentistry is already extremely challenging, unpaid treatment makes it even harder for us to continue offering this service to our community. This is why we have introduced deposits — to help reduce missed payments and ensure we can keep delivering NHS care.

We kindly ask all patients to ensure any outstanding balances are settled before leaving the practice after treatment.

We’d like to thank the many patients who have reached out privately with their support — it genuinely means a lot to our team.

GK Dental Hawick is currently one of the very few practices in the Borders accepting NHS patients with a short waiting list. We’re able to do this because we’ve invested in expanding the team, including hiring an additional dentist, to improve access locally.

To keep NHS dentistry running in Hawick, we rely on appointments being attended and agreed treatment being completed. Missed appointments, late cancellations, or treatment not being paid for make it much harder for any NHS practice to remain sustainable.

Thank you to everyone who attends, communicates with us, and helps us continue providing NHS dental care to the community.

We’re aware there has been some online posts about our practice.

Our aim is always to provide safe, ethical, and high-quality dental care within NHS guidelines, while using limited appointment availability responsibly and fairly. We try to offer the best possible service to all our patients, but we recognise that it isn’t always possible to please everyone, and that our approach may not be the right fit for every individual.

Over time, we have made our practice policies stricter to protect patient care and ensure consistency across the practice.

If any patient has questions or concerns, we strongly encourage them to contact the practice directly so these can be reviewed properly. We’re also grateful that many of our patients choose to share their experiences through Google reviews, which reflect the professionalism and care we aim to deliver.

We remain committed to serving the Hawick community with transparency, respect, and clinical integrity.

Good Morning, after looking out of the window this morning, we have taken the decision to close the practice today. Staff and patient safety have to come first, and it definitely doesn’t seem safe for anyone to be travelling today unless absolutely necessary. Our dentists will be available if you have a dental emergency that can’t wait until Monday morning. Please call the practice as normal today if you need our assistance.

We have received numerous calls regarding the status of our practice. We want to assure our patients that we are open as usual. We were temporarily closed for essential building work related to our expansion and the installation of new equipment, which would be noisy.

We hope to resume operations by Monday afternoon or Tuesday, depending on the completion of the work over the weekend.
Patients will be notified in advance about the status of their appointments.

Reception will be open on Monday as usual and calls will also be answered.

Its a 3 day weekend!! We hope all of our patients have a lovely Easter weekend. The practice will be closed on Easter Monday, and we will reopen on Tuesday 2nd April at 9am.
