Happy World Oral Health Day! 🦷✨

Today, let’s talk about preventative dentistry—the key to a lifetime of healthy smiles! Taking care of your teeth and gums isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about preventing issues before they even start.

Here’s how you can protect your oral health:
✅ Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
✅ Floss daily to remove plaque between teeth
✅ Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups
✅ Eat a balanced diet and limit sugary or acidic snacks and drinks

Your routine visit is more than just a quick glance at your teeth! Your dentist will:
🦷 Examine your teeth & gums for cavities, gum disease, and signs of other oral health issues
🦷 Take X-rays (if needed) to detect hidden problems
🦷 Perform professional cleaning to remove plaque & tartar build up and give you advice as to prevent this recurring
🦷 Check your bite & jaw alignment to identify any issues
🦷 Screen for head, neck and oral cancer to catch any early warning signs

Preventative care isn’t just good for your teeth—it’s good for your overall health too! This World Oral Health Day, make a commitment to your smile. Your future self will thank you!

⭐️ NEW YEARS RESOLUTION CAUTION ⭐️

Many adults try a new years diet - sometimes cutting smoking, reducing sugar or snacking. Often this can cause us to turn to the ‘mints’ for a taste hit, or as a habit clincher.

Popular mints (namely those extra-strong packets) are actually over 94% sugar! A packet a day of these would actually equate to almost half a kilo of sugar per day alone, in addition to your normal daily intake.

This is extremely dangerous for teeth and can cause rampant tooth decay in a very short period of time, often encircling the tooth neck and causing irreparable damage.

🦷 Even some sugar free mints actually do still contain sugar so be cautious. There is some evidence ‘xylitol’ containing mints/gum can reduce caries so please check the ingredients carefully or ask at your dental appointment 🦷

🚨 Mouth Cancer Action Month: Protect Your Smile, Protect Your Health 🚨

Did you know smoking is one of the leading causes of mouth cancer? Ci******es, ci**rs, chewing to***co and vapes contain toxins that can damage cells in your mouth, greatly increasing your cancer risk by over 10 times compared to non-smokers.

Over 90% of mouth cancer cases are linked to lifestyle factors, with smoking topping the list.

There is also evidence that second-hand smoke at home or work can also increase a persons risk of mouth cancer.

🚬 Mouth cancer risk is 35% lower in ex-smokers who quit 1-4 years previously compared to current smokers

🚬 Mouth cancer risk is NO higher in those who quit 20+ years previously compared to current smokers

💬 Join the conversation this and spread the word on why quitting is worth it. Small changes make a BIG difference in saving lives

Please visit Help Me Quit www.helpmequit.wales or see your dentist, pharmacist or GP for any information and help to quit smoking for good today.
