The reality is that many dental problems develop beneath the surface or between your teeth, where they're impossible to see with the naked eye. X-rays help us detect issues such as tooth decay, infections, bone loss and impacted teeth early, often before you notice any symptoms.

We only recommend X-rays when clinically appropriate, and modern digital X-rays use very low levels of radiation. Early diagnosis often means simpler treatment and better long-term oral health.

The teams from The Hartley Clinic and Elvetham Dental Care recently came together for our annual First Aid and Medical Emergency Training Day.

For the 8th year running, we welcomed Phil and Leke from St Mary’s Hospital in London. Their frontline experience in the Emergency Department brings the training to life, with real-world signs, sounds and scenarios that help our teams prepare for situations we hope never happen, but need to be ready for.

🦷 TUESDAY TIP: Don’t forget the spaces in between!

Brushing twice a day is essential, but your toothbrush simply can’t reach every surface of every tooth.

Plaque and food debris can build up in those small spaces between your teeth, which is why cleaning between them every day is such an important part of a good oral health routine.

Floss can work well for tighter spaces, while interdental brushes are often ideal for larger gaps. Your dentist or hygienist can help you find the best method, and the right size brush, for your teeth.

Did you know that brushing immediately after drinking orange juice, fizzy drinks or other acidic beverages can actually do more harm than good?

Acid temporarily softens the surface of your tooth enamel. If you brush straight away, you can wear away that softened enamel over time.

Instead, wait around 30 minutes before brushing. During this time, your saliva naturally helps neutralise the acid and allows your enamel to reharden.
