Visit your dentist regularly every 6 months for a check-up and ideally an appointment with the hygienist.
Brush thoroughly twice a day preferably using an electric toothbrush (or manual toothbrush if you prefer) for 2 minutes each time.
Use toothpaste and dental products that contain fluoride.
Don’t rinse after brushing as this removes the fluoride that you have just brushed on to your teeth.
Eat a healthy balanced diet and limit snacks between meals. Try and avoid acidic snacks which does include certain fruits.

Good oral health has many benefits, not only for your mouth but your overall wellbeing too. In recent years, gum disease has been linked with a number of general health conditions. Including:
Heart disease and strokes.
Early onset of dementia.
Early and low-weight births.
Diabetes.
Bacterial pneumonia.
More research is needed to understand how these links work but there is more and more evidence that having a healthy mouth and gums can help improve your general health. This all starts with brushing, we recommend you brush for 2 minutes twice a day.

As we look forward to the Bank holiday weekend and hope to enjoy some sun, it is good to know that catching some rays could be beneficial to gum health. Vitamin D which we get from sunlight plays a key role in the immune system by assisting in the activation of infection fighting cells and therefore providing a boost in immune response times. Vitamin D also makes it easier for your teeth to absorb calcium from the food you eat.

Rachel popped in today to give us a progress report and see the new surgeries which have now opened. It was lovely to see her looking so good and she is well on the road to recovery. However it will still be a while until she can return to work. Rachel thanks all her patients for their love and concern and looks forward to seeing them on her return.

Are you visiting your general dentist regularly during orthodontic treatment? Many people think that as they are having their braces adjusted regularly, this means they do not need to carry on with routine dental appointments like check ups and hygiene visits. This is very important as people with braces can be more prone to tooth decay and gum disease if not monitored closely.

Today is the start of National Smile Month.
National Smile Month highlights three key messages, all of which go a long way in helping us develop and maintain a healthy mouth.
They are:
Brush your teeth last thing at night and on at least one other occasion with a fluoride toothpaste.
Cut down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks.
Visit your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend.
