We're getting ready for the COP62 in just a few days time. It's an exciting time for Glasgow to be on the world stage and hosting the summit with over 120 world leaders attending.

We will remain open as normal during COP26, however please be aware of the road closures in and around the SECC. Although we are not in the immediate area of the summit, Great Western road is one of the alternative routes advised to travel along. If you have an appointment with us please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey.

We look forward to seeing you at the practice soon 🌍⭐️

As Scotland relaxes most of its COVID restrictions today we all hope to get back to some sense of normality.
Many of you are asking when you’re able to have your routine NHS check-ups, some of which have been postponed since March 2020.
Unfortunately, there are no such lifting of restrictions for Dentists. Due to the risk of aerosols and fallow time during dental treatments, we are unable to get back to normal levels of activity and may not for some months.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as ever and we will continue to triage dental emergencies as best we can.
Please see most recent update from GG&C Health Board to all patients.

Firstly a Happy New Year to all our patients.

Following the First Minister’s announcement today:

We are still open for essential and emergency dentistry, if you already have an appointment booked with a dentist or hygienist we are still open and will be happy to see you.

We ask everyone to follow the NHS advice and not to attend if you or someone you live with, or in your bubble has any symptoms of COVID-19 or has tested positive, you can re-arrange your appointment to a more suitable date. We also understand that with schools being closed and people told not to travel unless essential, you may wish to delay your treatment, if you feel you would like to put off until these new restrictions are relaxed. Again please call us and we will be happy to help.

Please remember to wear a face covering when entering the practice.

Stay safe and look forward to seeing you at some point in 2021.

Best wishes

Following the news that we will be entering Level 4 in Glasgow, the good news is...

As we are classed as an essential service, we will NOT be closing. All our dental and hygiene services will continue to operate as normal.

We will continue to treat our patients safely with the new measures we have already implemented since re-opening in July.

Take care and stay safe.

Morning everyone,

You may have heard that from 1st of November we are moving to Phase 4 of the NHS National Dental Mobilisation Plan.
This means that theoretically we will be able to provide the full range of NHS treatments to all patients in need of both urgent and non urgent care.

Unfortunately it is not business as usual.

Firstly, staff and patient safety remains our primary concern as we are in the midst of a second wave of the Covid 19 pandemic.

Secondly, the provision of NHS care will be contingent on the supply of NHS PPE and at present we have only limited PPE provided to us by NHS. And we are still working through our extensive routine treatment and examination waiting lists.

At Lansdowne Dental Care we have mitigated against PPE supply chain issues by purchasing our own stocks and we remain confident that we will be able to continue to offer a full range of care on a private basis.

We constantly aim to improve the quality of care at every level and are currently looking at alternative ways to ensure that the level of service and care can be improved upon as we evolve into our new way of working.

The team at Lansdowne would like to thank all of our patients for your patience and forbearance during the past 7 months, and for your understanding and cooperation whilst we implement new measures at the practice.

Hi everyone,

It’s been a while since we posted and frustratingly not much has changed in terms of the limited NHS services we are able to offer patients at this point.

We are fielding a lot of enquiries since the Scottish Government’s latest announcement that the full range of NhS dental services will be resuming from November 1st.

We are awaiting further guidance on this in the coming days, however what is clear is that this will not be a return to any sort of pre-covid normality. This has been confirmed in our latest communication from the Chief Dental Officer.

With the rate of virus transmission increasing in our communities and across Scotland, NHS dental practices still have limited PPE and significantly reduced clinical time available to provide this type of care. It is due in part to the need to have fallow time and increased environmental cleaning after every appointment. We are also required to limit the number of patients in the practice at any one time, to respect social distancing measures and maintain a safe working environment for our staff. Even from November 1st, we are still expected to prioritise NHS emergencies and Urgent Dental Care within the confines of our available PPE and much reduced operational capacity. This uses the lion’s share of our available NHS resources and also means that significant waiting times for routine NHS care are unavoidable.

Recently, we have been contacting patients who’s routine examinations were cancelled to offer them an “Oral Health Check”. Although this is not a full clinical examination, it does allow our dentists to touch base with our patients as well as carry out oral cancer checks, and discuss any problems and concerns that patients may have and what options are available if patients wish to avoid a lengthy wait for care. The Oral Health Check appointments are being offered in chronological order according to when patients examination appointments were cancelled.
Progress in getting through the backlog of patients cancelled is very slow.

We have found that in light of the latest announcements about a return to full NHS care, a number of patients are holding off from attending Oral Health Check appointments in the hope that they will get a full NHS exam and any associated treatment in the near future. Unfortunately this is highly unlikely to be the case. We estimate that we have in the region of 4000 missed examination appointments to reschedule as Oral Health Checks in the coming months. Where as before COVID we could see on average 100-120 NHS patients per day, we are currently being provided with enough PPE to see 10 patients a day for Non Aerosol Generating Procedures including NHS Oral Health Checks. Furthermore, the PPE required to carry out NHS Aerosol Generating Procedures (AGP’s) is a much higher level. And we are still waiting for the NHS to provide this equipment and to arrange fit testing for all our staff. In summary, all of the above means that we can only offer about 10-20% of our pre-COVID levels of NHS appointments each day.

We are desperately awaiting guidance for the next phase of NHS Care and once we have had time to read, analyse and prepare for this we will do our very best to begin working through the huge backlog.

We appreciate your support through these incredibly difficult times and we look forward to seeing you all again soon.
