Haven't posted in sometime. The last year, due to lockdowns, has been a busy one on the referral front. Here is a case we finished today. Patient presented with distal sinus on the LL7. No signs of any cracks. This was re-root treated over 2 visits. At the second visit, the sinus had healed nicely. To manage the apical curvature, I take a very progressive approach. Start with an iso 08 and iso 10 hand files. Then I move onto an iso 12 golden medium file. From there it felt smooth enough for a proglider. With an initial 2% taper and an iso 16 tip, this M-wire file is extremely flexible and will gently expand the glide path whilst respecting the fine anatomy.

I then go onto use the S1 and S2 files from the Dentsply Universal Gold series. these files are extremely flexible and mainly work preparing the mid and coronal thirds. They gently and progressively expand apical portion, respecting the anatomy. I then finished the prep with X1 and X2 Protaper Next files. Obturation is with Warm vertical compaction.

Will review in 6 months to monitor healing.

Helen qualified in 1979 from Dundee and spent 6 years working in various Oral and Maxillo-Facial Units, gaining much surgical experience. After several years travelling around the world, then living and working in Australia she returned to the UK and settled in Edinburgh.

Helen went fully into private practice in 2001 devoted her practice to restorative and cosmetic work at the same time keeping up with her surgical skills. Helen is also a trainer with BridgeToAid dental charity.

That's us been back for a few weeks now. Getting through the back log of emergency and urgent cases. We are accepting referrals again. If you have patients that require endodontic treatment, please feel free to refer them over. If your patient is in pain, we will endeavour to see them as quickly as possible. ⚠️An important message for patients ⚠️

In the best interests of our patients, colleagues and clinicians we have now closed the practice to all appointments during the current phase of the Coronavirus outbreak.
This means we have stopped all appointments, including emergency treatment of all patients for the coming weeks, as instructed by the Chief Dental Officer, Scotland.

We hope this change is short-lived but as always, our commitment to the health and safety of our patients and our people is paramount to us and means we are obliged to take this unprecedented step.

Whilst our physical building is closed, our practice is not…we are committed to offering a continued service of care to our patients during this time. ⛔️Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update⛔️

As per advice from the Chief Dental Officer of Scotland, advising us that as of today (Wednesday 18th March 2020), all dental practices across Scotland will be severely limited as to the dental procedures we are allowed to provide.

We will not be permitted to use any aerosol generating procedures.

This will affect a number of different treatments.

There is no indication in the guidelines as to how long we should expect this situation to continue but we will provide you with further updates as we know more information.

We will be contacting all patients with guidance as soon as we can
These measures have been put in place by the Chief Dental Officer for Scotland and we must adhere to them.
We do not know at this time how long these guidelines will be in place for but will update you as soon as we have further information.

Our team at the clinic are on hand to answer any questions you may have.

But we request that you do not come into the clinic unless you have an appointment to prevent potential spread of the virus (social distancing).

UR4 Separated file (buccal canal). We initially RCT'd tooth, taking the root filling up to file portion. Apical surgery was then planned to remove the file portion. I used a submarginal flap (luebke ochsenbein) as the gdp had recently placed crowns on the UR5 and UR6 and patient had a relatively high lip line. There is less chance of gingival recession with this style of flap. The apical section of root was excised, taking the file portion with it. Ultrasonics are used to prepare the root end and MTA placed as the apical seal. Will review soft tissue in week or two and radiographically review the tooth in 6 months.
