🦷 Restoring Smiles: Understanding Your Denture Options
A common question I hear from patients is:“My friend has a metal denture… should I get one too?”
The truth is, there is no one-size-fits-all answer. Every smile is unique, and the right denture depends on your individual clinical needs, comfort, function, and aesthetics.
For patients who prefer removable solutions instead of implants or bridges, at Brook Lane Dental Surgery we generally offer three main types of dentures:
1️⃣ Acrylic (Plastic) Dentures, These are the most common conventional dentures and are often recommended for patients who have lost all of their teeth (complete dentures). They can also be used as partial dentures when a few teeth are missing.
2️⃣ Chrome (Metal) Dentures, Chrome dentures are stronger, thinner, and more durable than acrylic dentures. They are often preferred for their precision fit, comfort, stability and long-term strength.
3️⃣ Flexible Dentures (Valplast)As the name suggests, these dentures are flexible and can be more aesthetically pleasing in selected cases, especially when replacing 1–2 missing teeth where implants or bridges may not be suitable or as a provisional solution.
Although flexible dentures have some advantages, they also come with limitations and drawbacks, which is why we only recommend them in carefully selected cases only.
✨ For complete tooth loss, we generally recommend traditional acrylic dentures.
Choosing the right denture is about balancing durability, comfort, aesthetics, and long-term oral health.
If you are considering removable options for missing teeth, I would be happy to help, guide you towards the most suitable solution for your smile. 😊
