🦷 BRACE YOURSELF – KNOW YOUR BRACES! 🦷
Ever had something break on your brace and then struggled to explain it over the phone? 😅
Knowing the names of the different parts of your brace can help us understand the problem quickly and get you booked in appropriately for an emergency appointment.
Here’s a quick guide to the main parts of fixed braces 👇
🔹 Bracket – The small square attached to each tooth.
🔹 Arch Wire – The wire running through the brackets that helps move your teeth.
🔹 Module (coloured ring) – The tiny coloured elastic that holds the wire into the bracket.
🔹 Ball Hook – A small hook attached to the wire used for elastics.
🔹 Elastics – Small removable rubber bands patients wear between the top and bottom braces.
🔹 Power Chain – A connected elastic chain used to help close gaps between teeth.
🔹 Quick Tie – A small metal tie that secures the wire around the bracket.
📞 If you call us and can say things like:
➡️ “My bracket has come off”
➡️ “My arch wire is poking my cheek”
➡️ “My power chain snapped”
…it helps our team know exactly what’s happened and advise you on the best next steps before your visit.
💡 Top tip: If something breaks, try to take a clear photo of the broken part and email it to us ([email protected]) — it can really help us assess the issue quickly!
