Some top tips for maintaining a healthy mouth during Halloween:

· Choose sweets carefully – avoid sweets that stay in your mouth for a long time. The length of time sugary foods stay in your mouth plays a role in tooth decay

· Avoid sticky sweets – the stickier the sweets the longer it takes to get washed away by saliva

· Drink more water – water can help prevent tooth decay and it helps to maintain hydration

· Chew gum – chewing sugar free gum for 20 minutes after meals helps reduce tooth decay

· Brush twice a day – with fluoride toothpaste

· Floss – decay-causing bacteria can get caught between the teeth where toothbrush bristles can’t reach

· Visit your dentist regularly – visiting the dentist every six months is recommended to keep teeth and gums healthy.
