Whole foods aren’t just better for your body—they’re better for your teeth too!

Processed foods often contain added sugars and starches that can stick to teeth and feed cavity-causing bacteria. In contrast, whole foods like vegetables, grains, and unprocessed proteins:

✔️ Are lower in sugar and acids, reducing the risk of decay
✔️ Require more chewing, which stimulates saliva to naturally protect teeth
✔️ Provide essential vitamins and minerals that strengthen enamel and gums

Choosing whole, minimally processed foods helps you maintain a healthier smile while supporting your overall wellbeing.

Eat whole, smile bright!

Here are 5 simple, effective tips to help prevent tooth staining from coffee and other staining foods/drinks:

1. Rinse after you consume
Swish your mouth with water after coffee, tea, red wine, or dark sauces. It helps wash away pigments before they settle into your enamel.

2. Don’t sip for long periods
Drinking coffee slowly over hours keeps your teeth constantly exposed. Try to enjoy it in one sitting instead.

3. Use a straw where possible
For iced coffee or cold drinks, using a straw reduces direct contact with your teeth and helps minimise staining.

4. Maintain a strong oral hygiene routine
Brush twice daily and don’t forget to floss. Using an electric toothbrush can help remove surface stains more effectively.

5. Schedule regular professional cleans
Routine visits to your dental practice allow for professional cleaning, which removes built-up staining and keeps your smile brighter.

If you’re noticing stubborn staining, your dental team can also talk you through safe whitening options to restore your smile

Fruit is an important part of a healthy diet — but it’s important to be mindful of how it can affect your teeth.

While fruit contains natural sugars and acids, frequent snacking can increase the risk of tooth decay and enamel wear.

Here’s how to enjoy fruit while protecting your smile:

✔️ Avoid grazing on fruit throughout the day – give your teeth time to recover between meals
✔️ Choose whole fruits instead of juices or smoothies, which are often higher in sugar and more acidic
✔️ Rinse with water after eating fruit
✔️ Try to have fruit as part of a meal rather than on its own

When choosing fruit, lower-acid options like bananas are generally kinder to your teeth.

A balanced approach is key — fruit is great for your overall health, and with the right habits, you can protect your smile too 💙
