It was a pleasure catching up with Aaron and Sophie at Elvet Dental Practice yesterday, for a discussion about NHS dentistry.

While things are improving, it seems pretty clear that we need to make sure the dental contract is reformed as quickly as possible. I'll be pushing this through my work as co-chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group for Dentistry and Oral Health, and look forward to catching up with Aaron and Sophie again, soon!

Want to reduce kids going into hospital? Want to save the NHS some money? There is another way other than casting your vote at the General Election.
There is a consultation about adding fluoride into the water in more areas in the North East. This has been one of the greatest health interventions of the last century and can make a massive difference to the rates of tooth decay in children. In the USA and in Ireland, about 70% of their populations receive fluoridated water. In Australia, there is 80% coverage. However in the UK, only 10% of the population receives fluoridated water.
Tooth decay is the number one reason why children are hospitalised in England. Adding one bit of fluoride for every million bits of water can reduce the admissions for tooth decay by as much as 50%.

The Health and Care Act 2022 provides powers for the Secretary of State to introduce, vary and terminate community water fluoridation schemes.

We have a number of staff that are having to isolate. Not great at all. 😞 We don't have enough capacity to offer the usual wide range of dentistry you all know and love so we will only be taking calls for emergencies over the next week or so. Apologies for the inconvenience!
We will soon be back to our usual selves 😁

Hi All,

Last week we started to see patients face to face again and we are continuing to work through the long list of people who have had pain and problems over the last few months. We are prioritising those who are in need the most, so please be patient with us if we can't book you in immediately. Of course if you are having pain or urgent problems- give us a ring and we will see what we can do.

In the meantime we are missing seeing all those smiling faces 😁😁😁😁

Hi All,

We are following national guidelines and routine dental care has stopped. For routine/general enquiries then phone the practice between 9-10 am weekdays.

If you have an emergency like severe pain, swelling, bleeding etc. then phone the practice and on the answering machine there is a mobile phone number that you can ring to take you through to one of our clinical team.
We are limited to what we can do- but we doing our best 😁
We will still be answering messages sent to this page also.

Apart from that, we hope everyone keeps safe and healthy and we look forward to seeing you when this all blows over. 👍🥳
