Happy New Year from Whitfield Dental Care!
The practice is now open again after our Christmas Break.
In light of the Scottish Government announcement yesterday we wanted to update you about dental services at the practice.

i) Please phone us on 502590 or email [email protected] with any enquiries or to arrange appointments (we can't arrange appointments over facebook)
ii) While we are able to offer most of our normal services, the way in which we deliver these has changed so there can be a delay in arranging a definitive treatment appointment
iii) As dentistry comes under the umbrella of healthcare, booked treatment appointments can continue as scheduled
iv) We realise that some people may wish to delay treatment whilst we are in lockdown. If that is the case, please give us as much notice as possible for cancelling your appointment

We would also like to thank all of our patients for their support and understanding over the past year

The Scottish Government last week announced the return of ‘routine’ dental care to general dental practices but with certain restrictions still in place. Here is a brief summary of what that means for our patients. More detailed information can be viewed at https://whitfielddental.co.uk/news/2020/07/16/covid-19-phase-3-update/

1) We are always available for emergency calls or advice. Please call 50 25 90 to speak with one of our team or leave a message. Alternatively, you can email [email protected]. Please only attend the practice if you have an appointment as we cannot take walk-in enquiries at present.

2) AGP’s (Aerosol generating procedures) are still not allowed. This includes most fillings, crown procedures and scaling as well as some aspects of routine check-ups.

3) We are not contacting adult patients to rearrange check-up appointments due to the restrictions however if you have a concern about your mouth, please get in touch and we can arrange an appointment.

4) Children’s check-ups can take place so we will be contacting parents/carers in the coming days and weeks to arrange these. We have quite a backlog due to lockdown so please bear with us.

This has been a difficult situation for everyone but we’re keen to emphasise we are available to deal with any concerns or enquiries, so please get in touch.

The Scottish Government announced last week that we have now moved into phase 3 in easing of lockdown. For dentistry that means that routine non-emergency care is now permitted (in addition to emergency care provided from phase 2) but still with certain restrictions. We’ve looked at the informatio...

UPDATE ON PROVISION OF DENTAL SERVICES

Good News! The practice is now open again for urgent emergency treatment. Please note the following:

1). We can still only see patients for emergency treatment
2). You must phone to arrange a scheduled appointment time – we will not be available for walk-in appointments or enquiries (50 25 90 [email protected])
3). If attending the practice for an appointment, you must come alone. Children or adults requiring assistance can attend with one adult
4). The range of treatments we will be allowed to provide at the practice is greatly restricted to include simple extractions, temporary fillings and simple recements.
5). We are not able to perform any “aerosol-generating procedures” (AGP’s). This includes any treatment requiring use of drills and ultrasonic scalers.

If you have any enquiries, please email the practice at [email protected]. Please bear with us as we seek to get things back up and running and thank you for your understanding at this time.

NEW UPDATE. Following government announcements this evening AVAILABLE DENTAL TREATMENT IS REDUCED TO EMERGENCIES ONLY. Regretably, all scheduled appointments are now to be cancelled. If you have a dental emergency, you must call the practice and follow instructions left on the answering machine. Staff will not routinely be on-site.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience, but must adhere to the recommendations we have been given.

CORONAVIRUS UPDATE

In order to limit spread of coronavirus, the NHS introduced new measures for dental practices which come into effect today.

From today, general dental practices will have to greatly limit the services they provide. We are to cease any ‘aerosol generating procedures’. In practical terms, this covers many of the procedures we would normally carry out including fillings, scaling, root canal treatment and crown and bridge work as well as certain surgical procedures

Patients considered ‘at-risk’ – the over 70’s, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions – are also being advised not to attend dental practices.

What can you still do?

We are able to carry out routine examinations, X-rays, denture work and simple tooth extractions. We can also see you for dental emergencies and provide remedial treatment in this regard.
If you are coming to the practice, it is helpful if you can come alone. Children should still be accompanied by one adult, and if you need to bring someone to assist you, that is also fine.

What do I do if I have a toothache?

The same procedure as normal applies if you have a toothache. Contact the practice (50 25 90) and we can get some more information from you and arrange an appointment. Please call the practice first rather than turning up on spec.

What if I’ve broken a tooth or lost a filling?

In these circumstances, we should be able to provide some sort of temporary filling for you. Again, please call the practice to arrange an appointment

I have an appointment booked already. What should I do?

Over the next few days we will be contacting all patients who have appointments booked for the coming weeks. Many of these appointments will need to be cancelled but we will make arrangements to ensure you get a new appointment once we are allowed to operate as normal again.
If your appointment is able to proceed, our staff will check that you are still able to come – this means checking you are not considered ‘at-risk’ and that neither you nor anyone in your household have shown symptoms of concern (dry cough or fever).

I’m worried about leaving my checkup for longer than normal.

We are still able to carry out checkups. We’re just limited in the treatment we can provide after. Where we identify problems or where you have concerns we will do what we can for you in the current circumstances. We will also proactively follow up with you to arrange definitive treatment as soon as we are able.

To emphasise, please do not attend the practice if you have a cough or fever.
The phones are likely to be busy over the next few days but if you have any enquiries, please email [email protected] and we can get back to you.
Thank you for bearing with us during these challenging times and we look forward to continuing your dental care in future.
