CORONAVIRUS UPDATE
In order to limit spread of coronavirus, the NHS introduced new measures for dental practices which come into effect today.
From today, general dental practices will have to greatly limit the services they provide. We are to cease any ‘aerosol generating procedures’. In practical terms, this covers many of the procedures we would normally carry out including fillings, scaling, root canal treatment and crown and bridge work as well as certain surgical procedures
Patients considered ‘at-risk’ – the over 70’s, pregnant women and those with underlying medical conditions – are also being advised not to attend dental practices.
What can you still do?
We are able to carry out routine examinations, X-rays, denture work and simple tooth extractions. We can also see you for dental emergencies and provide remedial treatment in this regard.
If you are coming to the practice, it is helpful if you can come alone. Children should still be accompanied by one adult, and if you need to bring someone to assist you, that is also fine.
What do I do if I have a toothache?
The same procedure as normal applies if you have a toothache. Contact the practice (50 25 90) and we can get some more information from you and arrange an appointment. Please call the practice first rather than turning up on spec.
What if I’ve broken a tooth or lost a filling?
In these circumstances, we should be able to provide some sort of temporary filling for you. Again, please call the practice to arrange an appointment
I have an appointment booked already. What should I do?
Over the next few days we will be contacting all patients who have appointments booked for the coming weeks. Many of these appointments will need to be cancelled but we will make arrangements to ensure you get a new appointment once we are allowed to operate as normal again.
If your appointment is able to proceed, our staff will check that you are still able to come – this means checking you are not considered ‘at-risk’ and that neither you nor anyone in your household have shown symptoms of concern (dry cough or fever).
I’m worried about leaving my checkup for longer than normal.
We are still able to carry out checkups. We’re just limited in the treatment we can provide after. Where we identify problems or where you have concerns we will do what we can for you in the current circumstances. We will also proactively follow up with you to arrange definitive treatment as soon as we are able.
To emphasise, please do not attend the practice if you have a cough or fever.
The phones are likely to be busy over the next few days but if you have any enquiries, please email [email protected] and we can get back to you.
Thank you for bearing with us during these challenging times and we look forward to continuing your dental care in future.
