Ever wondered what a dental implant actually is?

When a tooth is extracted the root is removed, so replacements like bridges or dentures sit on top of the gum and are usually 'secured' by the surrounding teeth, which means they are not entirely stable or secure.

A dental implant is the replacement of a root with a titanium implant. This bonds with the jaw bone to create a secure, stable base for a crown to be fitted on top. The crown being the part which looks like a tooth. Combined this is the best replacement for missing teeth, with our patients often commenting that it feels just like having your natural tooth back.
