🔴 MOUTH CANCER AWARENESS MONTH 🔴
Most of us have heard of cancer affecting parts of the body such as the lungs or breasts. However, cancer can appear in our mouth, where the disease can be diagnosed in areas like the lips, tongue, cheeks and throat.
In the United Kingdom (and around the world), the number of people with mouth cancer continues to grow at an astonishing rate.
Anyone of us are at risk of mouth cancer, whether we have our own teeth or not.

Early diagnosis is vital. It increases our chances of beating the disease, and gives us a much higher quality of life. Self-checks and regular dental visits are extremely important for spotting mouth cancer in its initial stages.
If in doubt, get checked out!

Re-opening🌈

We are pleased to announce the practice re-opened on June 15th.

After weeks of closure, I’m sure you can appreciate that we have a substantial number of patients who need urgent care. And whilst we’d love to see everyone as soon as we can, we must of course prioritise those patients experiencing dental pain.

Thereafter we will be contacting patients to re-establish regular routine appointments - please bear with us in the interim.

If you require emergency dental treatment, please call us on 01325 466766.

In the meantime, please keep safe and look out for further communication from us!

We are pleased to say we will be reopening 15th June. **PRACTICE UPDATE**

We now have further information about when the surgery will be reopening and ask you to click on the link below. This will direct you to our website which contains much more specific details.

Please note this will be a gradual and phased reopening dealing initially with urgent patients and then those who were in the middle of treatment when lockdown commenced.

Following the guidelines from the Chief Dental Officer on 4th June, the return of routine dental appointments will not commence immediately. This is important to ensure the highest level of patient and staff safety. However we are in a good position to commence routine appointments in the near future.

Thanks for all your patience and support during this time, it really has meant so much to all of us.

Neasham Road Dental Practice provides NHS and Private Dental services in Darlington. Emergency appointments available. Dentist.

**PRACTICE UPDATE**

As some of you may have seen in the media yesterday dentists have been given a provisional reopening date of 8th June. The dental profession learnt of this date at the same time as the general public and many of us were somewhat surprised by it. Our aim is to reopen as close to that date as we feel it is safe to do so.

We have been working extremely hard to source adequate PPE and prepare the practice However there is still further specific guidance we require from our professional bodies, which we hope to receive next week. This will include what we are and are not allowed to do and practical information such as how long we need to leave between patients. As you can imagine it is impossible to open the practice or book patients until we know this detail.

As with many professions and businesses, how we operate initially will be very different to how it was prior to Covid-19. So a return to 'normal' dentistry may take a while and we ask you to continue to bear with us.

There will be further posts over the next few days with details of how the practice is preparing, and reopening dates, so please continue to check this page for more details.

Thank you for all your support during this time. We are looking forward to seeing you soon.

The safety of our patients and our team is of paramount importance to us.

In the interests of all, we are following the advice from the Chief Dental Officer and stopping any face to face consultations or treatment. This means that any appointments already booked in the next few weeks are cancelled and you should have been contacted to re-arrange.

This has been a difficult, but necessary decision. We would like to thank our patients for understanding and our team for working hard during these difficult times.

Although we have had to close our doors, we will continue to give telephone advice when you need us. Our dental team are available to talk to any patient with concerns. Please telephone the practice for details of this service.

We wish everyone the very best and we look forward to welcoming you back when it is safe to do so.

*Coronavirus Update*

To our patients,

We just want to let you know that we are still open and for now our opening hours will remain the same. We are closely monitoring the situation on a daily basis and we will keep you updated should this change.

Due to the current COVID-19 outbreak we have been advised by the government, the Chief Dental Officer and the British Dental Association to wherever possible, reduce the amount of routine treatments we are doing to contribute to reducing the risk of further spread of the Coronavirus.

As such we will be focussing our care for patients who have an urgent dental problem. If you have an appointment booked with us in the coming weeks we will be contacting you soon to discuss your individual treatment.

We always have an extremely high standard of infection control, however, we would like to reassure you that we have put in place extra precautionary infection control procedures in line with the current situation. We have decided as a practice, to put in place a few guidelines which will be effective immediately (See below).

To keep in touch and find out more please follow us on Facebook where we will be posting updates and news. If you are calling the practice, please appreciate we have a higher call volume than usual.

Finally, during this difficult time it is important to remember we are a community. If you or a family member need any support, please reach out to our team and we will try and help as much as we can.

Thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

We wish you all well.
