💕 NATIONAL DOG DAY 🐾

Today is a celebration of dogs and how much joy they bring us. Whether it’s a pet dog, working dog or assistance dog, a dog will give us so much unconditional love and companionship. At Cwmbran Dental Care, sadly as a medical centre, we can only welcome assistance dogs, but we keep a special dog bowl on hand for their visits.

At the end of the working day Matt and Ruth’s dog Isla is there waiting to dispense kisses. She brightens each and every day, even in the sad times 🐾 In the words of Dolly Parton “I will always love you” 🥰

A FOND FAREWELL 👋💖

Today we say a bittersweet goodbye to Tracey. We want to thank her for all her hard work and the dedication that she has shown to our patients over the years. Tracey has been so supportive of the rest of the team and always brightened the working day, with her Irish humour, charm and wonderful smile ☘️🤩. We are so sad to see you go Tracey, but wish you good luck with everything ahead - you will be missed by all at Cwmbran Dental Care. Do keep in touch 💕😘

🎉🤩HUGE CONGRATULATIONS 🤩🎉

We would like to give a huge shout out to Barry Parham, who celebrated his 79th Birthday by running the 5km Cwmbran Park Run in 27mins 29 secs 👏. He is a wonderful advocate for the benefits of exercise in staying fit and healthy. Barry clearly enjoys the sport, having been a founder member of the Griffithstown Harriers and entered many competitions including cross-country running for Wales.

Well done Barry and Happy Birthday 👏👏 Long may you keep running. We look forward to seeing you with your cake at 80 🎂 xx

With the temperatures remaining extremely high, we have taken the unusual decision to close the practice early on Thursday 25th and Friday 26th June.

We kindly ask our patients to call 01633 877618 early in the morning if in pain, so we can see you before the practice closes. If you experience severe pain or swelling when the practice is closed, phone 07765 529681 on weekdays or 07623 984723 over the weekends.

Keeping up to date on a range of subjects, all to help our patients and staff stay safe. Thank you Charlotte from Professional Conferences 👏

Spotting mouth cancers at an early stage is the best way to improve prognosis. Stage 1 cancer is smaller than a fingernail! We look for mouth cancers at every patient check up visit.

As smoking and alcohol are the biggest risk factors for mouth cancers, it’s great that children under 17 years old, will never legally be able to buy to***co products.

For the patients who suffer from cold sores, we advise that you cancel your dental appointment if you have one, as the virus that causes them can be scattered by aerosols into the dentist and hygienist’s eyes, even though they wear eye protection. If in doubt consult the practice before your appointment.

Did you know that we can test your sugar levels, with a simple pin prick test?

We train to deal with medical emergencies. The general public can also access courses via St John’s Ambulance or the Red Cross, so helping to save a life.

😁 SMILE MONTH TURNS 5O 🥳

Smiling is linked to happiness and friendliness, and attitudes have changed over the past 50 years, but still in 2026 some people do not have a healthy mouth and avoid smiling, worry about bad breath and have low confidence in social settings. Poor oral health also has links to heart conditions and diabetes.

Research by the Oral Health Foundation has found that 48% of people do not brush their teeth twice a day and 74% do not clean between their teeth daily.

Preventing dental disease and an early stage, helps avoid expensive treatments down the line!

Smile Month was established 50 years ago to raise awareness of oral health and help people understand how to look after their teeth and gums at home.

The key messages to a healthy smile is adopting these simple habits:

😁 Brush teeth and guns for 2 minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste.

😁 Clean between your teeth, as brushing alone does not remove all the bacteria.

😁 Cut down on sugary foods and drinks, trying not to snack between meals.

😁 Visit your dentist regularly
