🦷🍹😎 DENTAL EROSION 🍹🦷

It’s hot so we need drink plenty of cold drinks. However some drinks may dissolve the enamel on our teeth 👎. It’s the pH of a drink that matters, any drink below 5.5 and the teeth start to erode away.

Water pH 7 is excellent, but a bit boring. Milk is also alkaline, but not really what we grab on a sunny day. Unfortunately it’s the cocktails, juices, colas, wine and beer that we crave, but these all have a pH of under 5.5. The worst being lemonade at a pH of 1 👎 cola pH of 2

So what can we do to protect our teeth?

🦷 😎 Drink quickly to limit the time the acid has to attack the teeth and ideally through a straw.

🦷😎 Drinking acidic drinks with meals helps neutralise the acids, as does eating a piece of cheese after meals.

🦷😎 Wait at least an hour before brushing your teeth, to allow the teeth to repair themselves

NEVER SUCK THE LEMON 🍋 ❌ from the top of your cocktail

WATER 💦 is the safest for our teeth and great for our body too 👍

☀️SUN AWARENESS ☀️

We all enjoy a bit of sunny weather, but too much UV radiation from the sun can lead to skin and lip cancers developing.

Here are a few simple steps to protect our skin:

⛱️ Stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm

😎 Cover up with loose clothing, a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses with 100% UV protection

☀️ Apply suncream generously at least Factor 30 with UVA and UVB protection, reapplying every 1-2 hours

👄 Lips need protecting too with a UV protecting stick, avoid lip gloss, which intensifies the rays.

Your dentist will check your face and lips for any signs of sun damage at your checkup. Mention any moles you may have, that have changed shape or are irregularly pigmented.

EARTH DAY 🌍🌱

Here at Cwmbran Dental Care we are aware of the need to reduce our plastic usage as much as possible, in order to help save the environment. For infection control, many things we use are single usage and have to be thrown away. We are constantly searching out eco-friendly products that we can use. We have already switched to paper cups, and bibs and will soon be changing to bio-based green suction tubes. To maintain a spotlessly clean clinical environment, we use large amounts of antiseptic wipes. These until recently have not been biodegradable, but now we are able to get biodegradable ones! These are all steps in the right direction 👏🌱
