At a time when health services are restricted it is important we all look after ourselves and that includes our dental health so here are a few tips on how to keep your teeth and gums healthy.
• Brush your teeth for two minutes last thing at night and at least one other time during the day.
• Use fluoride toothpaste and interdental brushes or floss (remember to brush along the gum line). Consider using a power toothbrush.
• Change your toothbrush regularly, at least every 3 months.
• Eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meal times. Avoid sugary foods and drinks.
• Try to avoid last Christmas toffees and nuts as it may be a while before that broken tooth, denture or lost crown can be fixed.
Good dental health begins with you. By following the above simple tips, this will help in maintaining you to keep your mouth clean and healthy.
If you do happen to break a tooth or loose a crown, keep the area as clean as possible and get a temporary filling kit from your local chemist (unfortunately this will not last forever and will need to be checked by a dentist when we return back to our normal dental services).
If you have a sore gum, Corsodyl mouthwash or gel may help to ease the soreness.
If you have severe pain or swollen areas, please contact the surgery and we will be able to advise you.
Please be assured that we are maintaining a telephone service which our team will continue to provide a highest level of service.
Stay safe, healthy and keep smiling.
