Proof that there is absolutely NOTHING scary about pre-orthodontics 🥹

This little one is fitting his BB1 (Biobloc Stage 1 appliance) which is a pre-orthodontic device that is placed in the roof of the mouth, that gradually expands the palate over time 🦷

These devices are used to open up the airways and widen the roofs of the mouths of our younger patients to give adult teeth more room to grow, and to help them breathe better!

They’re easy to use, and painless to put in and take out.

They can also help correct poor Myofunctional habits (such as mouth breathing, snoring, and teeth grinding)

These habits not only cause crooked teeth - they can make little ones restless, hyperactive, sleep-deprived and unable to focus.

If you have a child that displays any symptoms of poor myofunctional habits, they could benefit from pre-orthodontic treatment.

In light of October being , we thought it would be important to shed light on how menopause can affect the teeth and gums 🦷

As progesterone and oestrogen levels decrease, the mouth can be impacted:

- The gum tissues can thin
- The gums can recede
- The mouth can become dry
- Jawbone density can be lost

This is why it’s so important to maintain good oral hygiene and schedule in regular healthy mouth reviews & appointments with your hygienist so you can look after your health and wellbeing 💪

Last month, Milly headed out into the Dentaid mobile unit to spend a day volunteering with them 🤍

Dentaid is a registered charity that provides free dental care to those in need.

Milly said: “I really enjoyed my experience working with Dentaid, the opportunity to help the community struggling to access dental care and having a positive impact. It was very educating and I will certainly be volunteering again with Dentaid.”

We are so proud of Milly for dedicating her own time to supporting such an important cause! 🦷

Celebrating Petra 🫶

We can’t believe it’s been three whole years since Petra joined the team - where has the time gone?!

Petra, our wonderful Trainee Dental Nurse, brings so much to the practice. Life at Optident wouldn’t be the same without her 🦷

Here’s a little insight into what we get up to behind the scenes here at Optident 👀

A few times a year, we host Study Clubs that extend beyond dentistry to welcome collaboration across different fields and practices and to educate anybody who is interested in the pre-orthodontic care we offer here at Optident (such as Myobrace)

We invite osteopaths, speech and language therapists, GPs, and health visitors along so we can discuss what we all really care about - our patients!

We learn from one another and have open communication on how we can better the lives of those we look after in our individual practices.

We had a great time last Wednesday and can’t wait for our next one which will be held early next year!
